Any process engineering scale-up procedure is a source of uncertainties and risk. This paper presents an algorithm that completely eliminates the traditional scale-up procedure using a direct application of “large-scale” industrial knowledge. The large-scale knowledge base is represented by fuzzy descriptions of 489 existing suspension mixing tanks. A fuzzy reasoning algorithm is used to answer different queries. Therefore, a flexible user-computer dialogue is possible. A practical example is given in full detail.
