Notes: Abstract Large-scale combinatorial calculations of level densities were performed for selected nuclei using Gaussian polynomial generating function method (GPM). Contrary to the results of previous combinatorial calculations, we find a good agreement of the combinatorial total level densities and Bethe formula. Combinatorial GPM calculations were performed also for spin-dependent level densities and comparison is made with various algebraic formulas. On the basis of our GPM calculations we propose a new phenomenological spin-dependent level density formula, which in the low-spin limit reduces to the spin-dependent formula of Bethe. The new formula (24) is for all spins factorized into the product of total level density and spin distribution function, where the spin distribution function (25) contains an additional spin correction parameter.

Notes: Abstract Comparative analysis of three typical models of nuclear disintegration, the statistical multifragmentation model (SMM), the quantum statistical model (QSM) and a generalized evaporation model (GEM), is carried out. The thermodynamical properties of a decaying system as well as observable characteristics in heavy ion collisions predicted by the different models are discussed. It is shown that these models yield quite similar results for low charge yields at higher excitation energies (E/A〉6 MeV per nucleon) and it is suggested that the coincidence measurements of the intermediate mass fragment multiplicity and the neutron and proton multiplicity (or alternatively, the total bound charge) may be very useful for deducing the decay mechanism. The GEM is shown to differ from the other models in predicting a high Z residue peak.

Notes: Abstract We have investigated the effects of finite size corrections (surface and curvature) to the single particle density of states on various thermodynamic quantities of massless quarks and gluons confined in a spherical cavity. The chemical potential zero and non-zero both the cases are studied. Ignoring the surface term which seems much less important than the curvature term, the problem can be studied analytically in the case of zero chemical potential. We find a first order deconfinement phase transition contrary to the second order in absence of the curvature term. Furthermore, the values of the transition temperature,T s in the infinite volume limit and the critical temperatureT c 〉T s , beyond which hadrons cease to exist, are in conformity with our earlier studies.
