    Notes: Abstract Four benzodiazepines (diazepam, chlordiazepoxide, halazepam, lorazepam) were tested for their effects on the acquisition of a passive-avoidance task in mice. This was done to determine whether amnesic effects, as reported in humans after diazepam and lorazepam, could be demonstrated by blockade of passive-avoidance responding in mice and, if so, to investigate the possible causes of the blockade by studying the relationships between the blockade and times of drug administration. Each of these benzodiazepines, at doses that did not alter overt behavior, blocked acquisition of the passive-avoidance response when they were administered to mice prior to the training session, but not when they were administered after the training session or prior to testing 24 h later. The block of avoidance responding was reversed, however, when the drugs were administered prior to both training and test sessions. These results suggest that state-dependent learning occurred; i.e., apparent amnesia occurred in the test session with untreated mice that had undergone passive-avoidance learning 24 h earlier under the influence of drug.

Natur und Eigenschaften dieser Harze wurden mittels Spektroskopie, Dampfdruckosmometrie, Leitfähigkeitstitration und Thermogravimetrie untersucht.
    Notes: Resins based on condensation of o-hydroxyacetophenone with 1.2-dichloroethane in presence of anhydrous aluminum chloride were prepared. The nature and properties such as spectral, molecular weight by vapour pressure osmometry, conductometric titration and thermal behavior of these resins were studied.

    Description / Table of Contents: Polymere Metallkomplexe aus 3,3′-Benzidindicarbonsäure und den bivalenten Metallionen Kupfer, Nickel, Kobalt, Zink und Mangan wurden synthetisiert; ihre Eigenschaften, Zusammensetzung, IR-Spektren und magnetische Suszeptibilität wurden untersucht. Die gefärbten, pulvrigen Feststoffe wurden erhalten, indem die Metallacetate und der Ligand im geeigneten Verhältnis ca. 1/2 h am Rückfluß erhitzt und dann bei 110°C getrocknet wurden. Die Produkte sind stabil und in normalen Lösungsmitteln unlöslich.Die analytischen Daten zeigen die allgemeine Formel [ML]n für Cu(II) und Mn(II) an, dagegen die Formel [M4L5]n für Ni(II), Co(II) und Zn(II). Die Art der Koordination des Liganden mit den Metallionen wurde ermittelt durch Vergleich von IR-Spektren des Liganden und des Komplexes. Es wird eine polymere Struktur vorgeschlagen.
    Notes: Polymeric metal complexes of 3,3′-benzidine dicarboxylic acid with bivalent metal ions such as copper, nickel, cobalt, zinc and manganese have been synthesized and their properties, composition, IR-absorption spectra and magnetic susceptibilities were investigated. The coloured, powderly solids were obtained by refluxing the metal acetate and the ligand in the appropriate ratio for about half an hour and dried at 110°C. The compounds are stable and insoluble in common solvents.The analytical data indicate the general formula, [ML]n for Cu(II), Mn(II) and [M4L5]n for Ni(II), Co(II) and Zn(II). The mode of coordination of the ligand with metal ions has been elucidated by comparing IR spectra of the ligand and the complexes. A polymeric structure is proposed for the complexes.

    Description / Table of Contents: Poly[3,5-(1-carboxy-2-hydroxy-phenylen)ethylen] wurde durch eine Friedel-Crafts-Kondensation von Salicylic acid (SA) with 1,2-dichloro ethan (DCE) in Gegenwart von wasserfreiem Aluminiumchlorid hergestellt. Die Polymeren wurden unter Variation des Katalysatoranteils in Gegenwart von Nitrobenzol und Tetrachlorethan hergestellt. Die Polymeren wurden über ihre IR- und UV-Spektren charakterisiert und ihre Molekulargewichte wurden durch VPO und konduktometrische Titration in Pyridin bestimmt. Verschiedene empirischenden Beziehungen wurden angewandt, um die Viskositäten in DMF mit der entsprechenden Konzentrationsfunktion zu korrelieren. Eine TGA-Analyse wurde durchgeführt, um die thermische Stabilität der polymeren Proben zu vergleichen.
    Notes: Poly[3,5-(1-carboxy-2-hydroxy phenylene) ethylene] was prepared by Friedel-Crafts condensation of salicylic acid (SA) with 1,2-dichloro ethane (DCE) in presence of anhydrous aluminium chloride. The polymers were prepared varying the catalyst proportion, also in presence of nitrobenzene and tetrachloro ethane. The polymeric samples were characterized by IR and UV spectra and the molecular weights were determined by VPO and conductometric titration in pyridine. Various empirical relations were applied to correlate the viscosity data in DMF with the appropriate concentration function. TGA analysis was carried out to compare the thermal stability of the polymeric samples.
