Notes: Abstract A popular conception is that random number generators are very difficult to build. I informally discuss some easily programmed, easily remembered, random number generators. Simple graphical techniques are introduced for assessing the quality of the generators with little training. To encourage reader involvement, computational recipes are included.

Notes: Abstract Simple techniques are described for demonstrating graphically interesting behavior of puzzles defined on finite lattices. The simple puzzles should be of interest to students and teachers who may wish to design and solve similar problems. In particular, this note describes computer graphics used to gain insight into the behavior of the solution space.

Notes: Abstract Chaos theory involves the study of how complicated behavior can arise in systems which are based on simple rules, and how minute changes in the input of a system can lead to large differences in the output. In this paper, bifurcation maps of the equationX t+1=λX t [1+X t ]−β are presented, and they reveal a visually striking and intricate class of patterns ranging from stable points, to a bifurcating hierarchy of stable cycles, to apparently random fluctuations.
