Notes: The fluid of adhesive sphere (AS) is considered a tool for the investigation of the structure and thermodynamics of dispersed colloidal systems. We compare this model to a more realistic fluid such as the "square well fluid'' where the interactions are of finite range and strength. Considering the Percus Yevick (PY) approximation, we show that the analytical solution of the structure factor of the AS fluid and the numerical solution for the square well fluid agree fairly well at all volume concentrations if the range of the square well does not exceed 10% of the particles diameter. By comparison to the modified hypernetted chain approximation (MHNC) and simulation data we show that the PY approximation is convenient for hard core potentials with a short range tail. Selected examples of application of the AS model as a reference system are given either for the inverse micelles with short range interactions or for nonionic systems invoking the external structurated water shell contribution as a repulsive barrier which is state dependent.

Notes: Summary The use of a rather: elongated spheroid, the compacity of which decreases with its weight, equivalent to the aggregates allows to explain the effects of depolarized light scattering and of birefringence. In particular, a very unusual negative macroform birefringence has been found. Moreover the theoretical expressions concerning the absorbing particles which simultaneously exhibit an electric dichroism and birefringence have been written. They were tested by means of suspensions of carbon blacks.

Notes: Abstract By using our new air-bearing viscometer different types of transient flow can be studied; in the present work this viscometer was specifically applied to non-Newtonian blood suspensions. To observe the influence of both the aggregation and the deformation of red blood cells (RBCs), different concentrations of fibrinogen and dextran were used: the suspended RBCs were simply washed or rigidified with diamide. From the data three rheological parameters were determined, two of which are relative to the behavior at low and at high shear gradients, respectively. Their values were related to the theory of Taylor, and the internal viscosity of RBCs was estimated to be around 3 cp.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Es werden Rechnungen betreffend ein luftgelagertes Viskosimeter neuen Typs durchgeführt.
Notes: Summary Calculations are performed which concern a new type of air-bearing viscometer. The transient motions of the rotor are studied for Newtonian fluids, and some applications are described for non-Newtonian fluids. It is shown that the rise and relaxation motions may be generally well described by only one exponential function of the time.
