Description / Table of Contents: Abstract The author defines Ignimbrites: Pyroclastic rocks forming layers of some extent and consisting mainly of glass-ashes welded together. Ignimbrites are formed by special types of glowing clouds. The author subdivides such clouds (or blasts) into several types. The origin of “overflowing” clouds is discussed.

Description / Table of Contents: Abstract The Etna-history is a long and complicated-one. Triassic submarine effusions preceded Jurassic, Cretaceous and Tertiary activities. Volcanism migrated North and underlines East-Sicilian fracture-zones now. The actual volcano is Pleistocene of age and consists of several overlapping cones. Andesitic lavas with tephritic tendencies prevail and differ from the pacific and mediterranean, anatectic products of Stromboli, Vulcano and Vulcanello. The Etna-Material consists of differentiated hypogene matter.

Notes: [Auszug] SIR,-We are scientists who firmly hold political opinions which differ from one to another. We are not concerned to try and understand these differences. We are, however, convinced that every scientist (like every nonscientist, indeed) has the right to hold what ideas he likes and to maintain them ...
