    Notes: Abstract The occurrence and distribution of Azorhizobium and Rhizobium strains that induce stem nodulation of Sesbania rostrata were determined in four vegetation zones in Senegal. Based on tests with 16 Rhizobium and 10 Azorhizobium strains nodulating S. rostrata, a method was devised to distinguish among the strains. In all vegetation zones, members of both genera were more abundant in rhizosphere than nonrhizosphere soil under S. rostrata, Cassia obtusifolia, Acacia senegal, and Hystic suaveolens, and Rhizobium was present at higher densities than Azorhizobium. Azorhizobium was more abundant on the leaves and stems than Rhizobium in three of the vegetation zones, and the density of Azorhizobium but not Rhizobium was far greater on the leaves of S. rostrata than the three nonhost species in all four zones. Approximately 90% of the stem nodules and 39–48% of the root nodules on S. rostrata in all four zones were formed by Azorhizobium.

    Notes: The lattice parameters of BiFeO3 were determined with the Straumanis method. At 25–13±0.02 °C, the hexagonal parameters are ah = 5.5799±0.0003, and ch = 13.8670±0.0005 Å. The temperature dependence of the lattice parameters in the range 20–325 °C is given by the equations: ah = 5.5764 Å + 6.06 × 10−5t, and ch = 13.8620 Å + 2.10 × 10−4t. In the range of 344–838 °C, the lattice parameters obey the following equations: ah = 5.5946 + 6.83 × 10−5 t, and ch = 13.7251 + 9.05 × 10−4 t −12.503 × 10−7 t2 + 9.40 × 10−10 t3 − 3.57 × 10−13 t4. By extrapolation of the angular separation of the 11.0 and the 10.4 reflections, the electrical Curie temperature was determined to be 845±5 °C.

    Notes: Conclusion Currently the 26 films in the Science Territory series have been shown to audiences who watch Channel 8 commercial television in the vicinity of Darwin. They are still being shown to audienc who watch Imparja Television. There are no plans at the moment to shown Science Territory for any extra time on either Channel 8 or Imparja, once the Imparja programmes are completes. There are plans however to develop materials to complement the programmes, which could be used in schools and there are also plans to repeat the success of Science Territory and to expand it on a national basis to a series of programmes to be called “Science Oz”. This research note has described of the Scienc Territory project which has attempted to improve students' and parents' attitudes to science. It has alo attempted to explain how the issue of determining the effectiveness of the project has been addressed. Overall, Science Territory proved to be an interesting, exciting, successful and whorthwhile venture, particularly for the small scientific community of the Northern Territory. It also appears to be unique both in Australia and worldwide. There are therefore lessons that science educators can learn from this about new ways of improving students' attitudes to science.
