Notes: [Auszug] BOTHE and Kolhörster1 wore the first to show that the cosmic rays manifest themselves to us as highly penetrating corpuscular rays. Direct experimental data on the nature as well as on the energy of these rays are still lacking; they might be obtained by experiments on the ...

Notes: [Auszug] IN a recent discussion on the cosmic rays,1 Prof. Geiger has pointed out that it would be of interest to make comparative measurements on the absorption of the penetrating corpuscular rays coming from different inclinations to the vertical. Such an experiment was performed ...

Notes: [Auszug] LAST year I showed by means of a coincidence method that a secondary corpuscular radiation is generated when cosmic rays pass through matter1. From the beautiful experiments of Blackett and Occhialini we know now that these secondary particles are produced in so-called ‘showers’. ...

Notes: [Auszug] IN a recent paper, Euler and Heisenberg1 have thoroughly discussed the hypothesis that the hard component of the cosmic rays consists of ‘mesotrons’ produced in the upper layers of the atmosphere by primary electrons or photons and then disintegrating, as predicted by Yukawa's ...

Jaeobsen in NATURE of October 15, I am glad to note that the experiments referred to confirm results obtained by me two and a half years ago by the same method1, namely, that the efficiency of the Geiger-Müller counter increases at first ...

Notes: [Auszug] WE are glad that the critical remarks of Jánossy give us an occasion to reconsider the interpretation of our balloon experiments. We have been aware of the fact that some of the figures quoted in our original paper are inaccurate. Indeed, in a paper presented by one of us at the Cosmic ...

Notes: [Auszug] PROF. W. BOTHE in the Zeitschrift für Physik (vol. 59, p. 1) describes a method for registering simultaneous impulses of two Geiger's counters, which depends principally on the working of a two-grid thermionic valve. Lately, I have had the opportunity of experimenting with a circuit which ...
