Summary The metabolism of the so called bradytrophic tissues as aorta and tendon of the growing and ageing white rat was investigated by enzyme histochemistry and histoautoradiography. These bradytrophic tissues are compared with those tissues having a very active metabolism as liver, pancreas, cortex of kidney and mucosa of duodenum. The degree of bradytrophy of aorta and tendon was determined qualitatively by enzyme histochemistry and semiquantitatively by the autoradiographical method. It could be demonstrated that the degree of bradytrophy in the bradytrophic tissues is very different; this difference is essentially caused by the different change of the cell-intercellular substance-ratio in the ageing bradytrophic tissues. The different change of the cell-intercellular substance-ratio in the ageing aorta and tendon is corresponding to the different size of the nucleus of the cells in these tissues.
Notes:
