Notes: [Auszug] We have now attempted to detormine, using the Dale-Schultz reaction, whether the substance responsible for the contraction of the sensitized guinea pig and rat uteri in the presence of antigen is histamine or 5-hydroxytryptamine. It was found that the guinea pig uteri (whether from sensitized or ...

Notes: [Auszug] When, heparin (20 mgm.) and histamine acid phosphate (1 mgm.) are mixed in solution, and alcohol (70 per cent) or acetone is added, the precipitated heparin. removes about 70 per cent of the histamine from the solution when the pH is around 5. The combination, however, is dependent upon pH, since ...

Notes: [Auszug] Histamine sensitivity was tested by the method developed by Jha in this laboratory. Briefly, it consists of placing on the f ore-arm a lint soaked in an aqueous solution of histamine acid phosphate (10~5 cone, as base) and another in N saline. The anode of a 6-V. dry battery is placed on the ...

Notes: [Auszug] In the first experiments, it was confirmed that intra-peritoneal injections of soluble insulin (4-12 units/ kgm.) given 15 min. before egg white (24 ml./kgm.) or dextran (300 mgm./kgm.) aggravated the anaphylac-toid reactions; its speed of onset was increased, and the reaction which developed was ...

Notes: Abstract The common frequency of the nontasting gene for phenylthiocarbamate (about 28%) has been found both in Indian adults and in Indian children aged between 6 and 11 years. However, a much lower frequency (less than 11%) was obtained when both Turkish adults and Turkish children aged between 6 and 11 years were tested. On the other hand. English children under the age of 7 years possessed a higher frequency (up to 60%). English children aged 9 years or older had a frquency comparable with that of English adults (about 28%). It was found that between the ages of 7 and 9 many English nontaster children became tasters, which accounts for the observed change in frequency. The reasons for these variations are being investigated.
