    Notes: Summary The addition of 2-acetoacetoxyethyl methacrylate (AAEMA) to aromatic isocyanate such as phenyl isocyanate or tolylene 2,4-diisocyanate, and the Knoevenagel condensation of AAEMA with aromatic aldehydes, respectively, yield polymerizable products. These monomers were characterized by elemental analyses, IR, 1H NMR and partially by 13C NMR spectroscopy. The radical polymerization of synthesized AAEMA-isocyanates adducts forms polymeric blocked isocyanates. The Knoevenagel condensate of AAEMA with benzaldehyde is radically polymerizable and tends to crosslink during its homopolymerization.

    Notes: Summary The preparation of methacrylic and p-styrenesulfonic acid esters of the antibacterial agent thymol (2-isopropyl-5-methylphenol) and their characterization by IR, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy is described. The monomers are radically polymerizable and give polymers in which thymol is covalently attached to the polymer backbone by ester links.

    Notes: Summary Polymerizable enamines were synthesized by the reaction of 2-acetoacetoxyethyl methacrylate (AAEMA) with various aliphatic mono- and diamines. The enamines were characterized by elemental analyses, IR,1H NMR and13C NMR spectroscopy. Radical polymerization of synthesized enamines yielded polymers with pendant enamine groups which were also prepared by the reaction of poly(AAEMA) with the corresponding amines.

    Description / Table of Contents: Ausgehend von 2,4,6-Triiodphenol, 2,3,5-Triiodbenzoesäure und 3, 5-Bis(acetylamino)-2,4,6-triiodbenzoesäure wurden polymerisationsfähige Methacrylsäurederivate synthetisiert und mittels IR-, 1H-NMR und 13C-NMR-Spektroskopie sowie Elementaranalyse charakterisiert. Die iodhaltigen Methacrylate zeigen eine unterschiediliche radikalische Polymerisationsneigung. Während 2,4,6-Triiodphenylmethacrylat in Gegenwart von AIBN nur oligomerisiert, werden aus 2-Methacryloyloxyethyl-2,3,5-triiodbenzoat Polymere erhalten. Auf der Basis von Mischungen eines Isomerengemisches aus 1,3-Dimethacryloyloxy-2- bzw. 1,2-Dimethacryloyloxy-3-(2,3,5-triiodbenzoyloxy)-propan und gebräuchlichen Vernetzermonomeren wurden röntgenopake Materialien hergestellt.
    Notes: Starting from 2,4,6-triiodophenol, 2,3,5-triiodobenzoic acid and 3,5-bis(acetylamino)-2,4,6-triiodobenzoic acid, polymerizable methacrylates were synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR spectroscopy. The iodine-containing methacrylates show a different radical polymerization behaviour. 2,4,6-Triiodophenyl methacrylate gives only oligomeric products in the presence of azoisobutyronitrile (AIBN), whereas 2-methacryloyloxyethyl 2,3,5-triiodobenzoate yields polymers. On the basis of mixtures of isomeric 1,3-dimethacryloyloxy-2- and 1,2-dimethacryloyloxy-3-(2,3,5-triiodobenzoyloxy)propane with usual crosslinking monomers, radiopaque materials were prepared.

    Description / Table of Contents: Preparation of Optical Active 2-(Aryloxy)propionic Acids by Kinetic Resolution.  -  Herbizides2-(Aryloxy)propionic anhydrides 2 were transformed with 70-90% stereoselectivity into the R,S-or S,R-diastereomeric esters 4, respectively, on reaction with stoichiometric amounts of optical active 1-(4-pyridyl)ethanol (3). The acid 1 set free in one mol equivalent during this reaction was mainly the other enantiomer in 62-72% optical yields. By treatment with boiling acetic anhydride and pyridine the acid 1 is transformed back into racemic anhydride 2. The ester 4 was hydrolyzed with aqueous acid to optical active 1 with regeneration of the optical active alcohol 3. In this way a quantitative transformation of racemic acids 1 into that enantiomer which is an active herbizide is possible using 3 as optical active auxiliary material.
    Notes: 2-(Aryloxy)propionsäureanhydride 2 wurden mit stöchiometrischen Mengen von optisch aktivem 1-(4-Pyridyl)ethanol (3) mit 70-90% Stereoselekitivität zum R,S- bzw. S,R-diastereomeren Ester 4 umgesetzt. In den gleichzeitig freigesetzten 2-(Aryloxy)propionsäuren 1 fand sich jeweils bevorzugt das andere Enantiomere mit 62-72% optischer Ausbeute. Durch racemisierende Rückführung der Carbonsäuren 1 in die Anhydride 2 und saure Hydrolyse der Ester 4 ergibt sich im Prinzip ein katalytisches Verfahren zur quantitativen Überführung einer racemischen 2-(Aryloxy)-propionsäure in das als Herbizid wirksame Enantiomere.
