Abstract This paper shows that ferric hydroxide with sorbed radioactive isotopes is floated from aqueous solutions. It is shown that during flotation the radioactive isotopes are hardly desorbed at all. A study is made of the flotability of ferric hydroxide in relation to the alkalinity of the solution, initial concentration of reacting materials, foreign impurities. A suggestion is made as to the chemical character of reaction between the ferric hydroxide and the studied flotation reagent. The article also discusses some experimental data on the flotation of ferric hydroxide precipitates forming during the purification of radioactive effluents.
