Notizen: Sumary The H+ 〈−−−〉UO2 2+ ion exchange in aqueous solution was studied in the material modified by in situ sorption and thermal polymerization of acrylic acid in low density polyethylene films. Fluorescence spectroscopy was used to observe the percentage of UO2 2+ exchange. The effects of temperature and film thickness in the exchange process were analyzed. The percentage of the H+ 〈−−−〉UO2 2+ exchange were twice as that observed for Eu3+. Simultaneous H+ 〈−−−〉Eu3+/UO2 2+ ion exchange in LDPE-PAA matrix was investigated and from fluorescence spectra they showed no evidence of energy transfer from UO2 2+ to Eu3+.

Notizen: Summary Ion exchange between H+ and Eu3+ ions was studied in the material modified byin situ sorption and thermal polymerization of acrylic acid in low density polyethylene films (LDPE-PAA). The effects of the temperature and film thickness on the ion exchange were observed using fluorescence spectroscopy. The ion exchange was investigated at 60, 70 and 80°C and was most efficient at 80°C. At this temperature 42% of the ion exchange at the saturation time was observed in the matrix (200 um thick). The percent of ion exchange at saturation increases with the matrix film thickness reaching 72% of Eu3+ions in LDPE-PAA. Ion exchange occurs mainly in the film surface or in the neighbouring layers.

Notizen: Abstract A topic of constant investigation in recent decades has been the study of electron and/or energy transfer reactions in supramolecular systems. The energy transfer between donor-acceptor depends on the influence of the substituent in the intersystem crossing. The competition between the radiative and non-radiative processes also depends on other factors such as temperature, solvent and energy gap. In this work, we have studied the suppression of the emission of monocarboxyphenyl porphyrins after addition of rare earth ions (RE(III)). The porphyrin emission decreases with the addition of RE(III), no matter which ion is present. When Eu(III) was used, the emission of this ion was not observed either. This suppression happens due to the effect of the heavy atom and not due to the energy transfer through electronic levels between the porphyrin and the RE(III). After the addition of RE(III), the lifetime for MCTPPH2 started to decay biexponentially, indicating the formation of a new species (MCTPPH2-RE(III)) of a shorter lifetime. The presence of NO2 groups in the ortho mesoaryl positions of MCTNPPH2 and the presence of Zn(II) in Zn(MCTPP) decreased both the porphyrin lifetime and emission due to an increase in the spin-orbit coupling.
