    Notes: Summary Meiosis in 96 varieties of garden roses was studied. While the euploid numbers were most frequent, in exceptional cases, aneuploid numbers were recorded. Intervarietal variation in chromosome pairing is reflected in the varying degrees of expression of univalents, heteromorphic bivalents, bivalents with double secondary constrictions and multivalents. Supernumerary fragments in addition to the euploid chromosome complement were recorded in three varieties. Three varieties of floribundas and one of hybrid polyanthas were chromosome numerical mosaics.

    Notes: Summary Pachytene analysis was undertaken in 4 japonica-indica rice hybrids. In all these hybrids, pairing was exceedingly abnormal lending evidence for structural hybridity. Earlier investigators who analysed metaphase-I and later stages of meiosis concluded that sterility is due to genic causes. The present investigation clearly points out the chromosomal causes of sterility and makes possible a reinterpretation of (1) non-recovery of recombinant phenotypes and (2) the occurrence of albina and other mutations in hybrid progenies.

    Description / Table of Contents: Samenvatting Synchronisative van de bloei werd verkregen bij 50 rijstrassen, variërend van vroeg to zeer laat, door een photoperiode van 8 lichturen te geven aan 30 dagen oude zaailingen gedurende 20 dagen. De resultaten toonden dat hoe later het type, hoe groter de reactie op de photoperiode is. De regressiewaarde van de photoperiode-reactive op het normale bloebegin der rassen bedroeg ongeveer 1.0.
    Notes: Summary Synchronisation of flowering was effected in fifty rice varieties, ranging from early to very late duration, by giving 8 light hours photoperiod to 30 days old seedlings for 20 days. The results showed that the later the type, the greater was its response to photoperiod and regression value of photoperiod response over the normal duration of the varieties was approximately 1.0.
