Notes: Abstract Potassium fluoride peroxosolvate KF-H2O2 was obtained upon action of a 30% aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide on solid potassium fluoride dihydrate. As compared to other peroxosolvates, KF-H2O2 is characterized by the highest thermal stability: the decomposition rate constantk 1, at 120°C is 1.4 10−3 min−1, the enthalpy of H2O2 addition to KF is 8.1 kcal/ mol. The correlation between the high stability of KF-H2O2 and the absence of catalytic properties of KF towards H2O2, and the formation of strong intermolecular O-H...F and intramolecular O-H...O hydrogen bonds in the crystal is discussed.

Notes: Abstract X-ray structural analysis has revealed that reaction of (BEDT-TTF)[HgCl3]− with PhCl leads to the formation of a cation-radical salt (BEDT-TTF)4[Hg2Cl6]· PhCl, which exhibits a laminar crystal structure. The cationic layer is characterized by a grid or lattice network of contracted S...S intermolecular distances (3.396(4)–3.647(5) Å), which unite the BEDT-TTF cations in ribbons or bands, parallel to the [014] direction, and which also bind the ribbons together in a direction close to the [010] axis. The presence of this type of lattice network explains the metallic nature of the conductivity of this salt (BEDT-TTF)4Hg2Cl6]·PhCl in the temperature range 300.0–1.5 K, and is the basis of assigning this salt to a new class of organic, two-dimensional conductors. The [Hg2Cl6]2− anions and PhCl solvent molecules are united via secondary Hg...Cl 3.176(5) Å and Cl...Cl 3.480(6) Å interaction forces to form centrosymmetric tetramers [Hg2Cl6PhCl]2 4−, stretched out along the [014] axis direction.

Notes: Abstract The compositions and structures of two new organic metals based on ET [where ET = bis(ethylenedithio)tetrathiafulvalene], viz., (ET)2[Hg(SCN)Cl2], with a metal-dielectric transition temperature (Tm-d) of 35°K, and (ET)2[Hg(SCN)2Br], with Tm-d = 140°K, were established by x-ray diffraction analysis. The crystal structures of the investigated compounds are similar to the structure of the previously studied organic metal (ET)2[Hg(SCN)2Cl] with Tm-d = 50°K. The principal crystallographic data for (ET)2[Hg(SCN)Cl2] are as follows: a = 36.64(1), b = 8.300(4), c = 11.798(1) Å, β = 89.91(3)°, V = 3588.1(9) Å3, space group Cc, Z = 4, dcalc = 2.05 g/cm3. The principal crystallographic data for (ET)2[Hg(SCN)2Br] are as follows: a = 37.088(14), b = 8.338(3), c = 11.738(5) Å, β = 89.71(3)°, V = 3629.6(8) Å3, space group C2/c, Z = 8, dcalc = 2.15 g/cm3. A characteristic feature of the crystal structure of the investigated compounds is alternation of the anion and cation layers along the a axis of the crystal. In the cation layer of the k type the ET are interconnected by shortened S...S intermolecular contacts (3.39–3.58 Å). The [Hg(SCN)3−nXn]− anions (X = Cl, Br; n = 1, 2) form polymeric chains with one or two bridged SCN groups. A tendency for a decrease in the metal-dielectric transition temperature with a decrease in the volume of the anion is detected in the (ET)2[Hg(SCN)3−nXn] salts, where X = Cl and Br, and n = 1 and 2.

Notes: Abstract The molecular structures of the initial compounds and the products of photocyclization involving amino and azomethine groups in perchlorates ofN-amino (1) andN-azomethine (2) derivatives of 2,4,6-triphenylpyridinium cations were studied. Cations1 and2 have an essentially non-coplanar arrangement of the α-Ph rings, and the product of photocyclization of2, cation3, is characterized by a flattened structure. It was found that the orientation of the lone electron pair of the N atom with respect to one of the planes of the α-Ph rings in molecule1 is more favorable for monocyclization involving the amino group. The structure of molecule2 allows two routes of the photoreaction, viz., O → N proton transfer and monocyclization with an α-Ph ring. However, the structural features of molecule2 are more favorable for photocyclization.

Notes: Abstract The new cation-radical salt (EPT)HgCl3 is prepared. Its structure and electrical conductivity are studied. The crystal structure of (EPT)HgCl3 contains (EPT)+ in the chair conformation and trigonal planar HgCl3 − packed into organic and inorganic layers alternating along thea axis. Shortened intermolecular contacts join HgCl3 − into infinite chains along the c axis (Hg...Cl, 3.289 and 3.387 Å), form stacks (S...S, 3.536 and 3.597 Å) and layers (S...S, 3.427–3.498 Å) of EPT+ cation-radicals, and create cation-anion interactions between neighboring layers in the crystal (Cl...S, 3.396–3.521 Å, Cl...C, 3.360 Å). The configuration of the bonds around Hg in HgCl3 − is distorted trigonal planar: Hg-Cl, 2.342(3)–2.449(3) Å, Cl-Hg-Cl, 110.7(1)–137.4(1)∘. The Hg atom lies out of the plane of the Cl atoms by 0.015 Å. The conductivity of (EPT)HgCl3 at ∼20°C is σ300 ∼ 5·10−2 (Ω·cm)−1. The dependence of conductivity on temperature is semiconducting in nature.

Notes: Abstract A two-step synthesis has been proposed to obtain 1,12-difluoro-1,1,3,5,5,8,8,10,12,12-decanitro-3,10-diazadodecane-6,7-diol dinitrate, starting from 1,1,4,4-tetranitrobutane-2,3-diol and N-(methoxymethyl)-2-fluoro-2,2-dinitroethyl-amine, followed by nitration of the Mannich base formed. An x-ray-diffraction investigation of the dinitrate obtained was carried out.

Notes: Abstract The electrochemical oxidation of ET [bis(ethylenedithio)tetrathiafulvalene] in bromobenzene (electrolyte Bu 4 N[HgBr 3 ]) gave the radical-cation salt (ET) 8 [Hg 2 Br 6 ·PhBr] 2 (1), a new organic metal with a temperature range of 300–125 K. At 125 K a metal—dielectric transition is observed. Crystallographic data for (1):a=19.171(6),b=12.668(4),c=17.777(6) Å, α=118.03(3), β=89.45(2), γ=101.21(3)°, P $$\overline 1 $$ ,Z=1,d calc=2.30 g/cm 3 . The crystal structure of (1) is laminar. In the conducting organic layer the ET radical cations are linked into bands by shortened intermolecular S···S contacts of the “side-to-side” type. The anionic layer consists of centrosymmetric complexes [Hg 2 Br 6 ·C 6 H 5 Br] 2 4− . The Hg 1 and Hg 2 atoms are characterized by a trigonal configuration of the Hg-Br bond which is built up, on account of secondary Hg···Br interactions, into trigonal-bipyramidal for Hg 1 and trigonal-pyramidal (tetrahedral) for Hg 2 . Interaction between the anionic and cationic layers is effected through Br 6 ...S 8 contacts [3.491(7) Å)].

Notes: Abstract The composition and structure of the radical-ion salt (ET) 2 [Hg(SCN) 2 Cl], a new organic metal withT M-D=50 K, were established in an x-ray structure investigation. Principal crystallographic data:a=36.69(1),b=8.302(8),c=11.732(8) Å, β=90.02(6)°, space groupCc, Z=4,d calc=2.08 g/cm 3 ,R=0.067. The crystal structure of the salt consists of an alternation of organic (cationic) and inorganic (anionic) layers along the axisa. The anionic layer consists of the polymeric chains in which the [Hg(SCN) 2 Cl]− ions are linked together along the axisc through secondary Hg···N bonds with lengths of 2.75(3) and 2.98(8) Å. On account of these interactions the trigonal configuration of the bonds of the Hg atom is built up to trigonal-bipyramidal. In the organic layer with a structure of the κ type the ET cations form dimers with an interplanar distance of 3.53 Å. ET cations belonging to neighboring dimers are linked together through shortened intermolecular S...S contacts with lengths of 3.40–3.50(2) Å.

Notes: Abstract The C60·2S8 complex was prepared by reaction of buckminsterfullerene C60 with sulfur in trichloroethylene and its single-crystal X-ray structure was studied at room temperature. Crystals of this compound are monoclinic, space groupC 2/c, a=20.90(1),b=21.10(1),c=10.537(9) Å, β=111.29(7)°,Z=4,d calc=1.89 g·cm−3. The crystal structure of the C60·2S8 complex consists of packed fullerene molecules that form hexagonal channels along thec axis with eight-membered crown-shaped S8 cyclic molecules inside the channels. The distances between the centers of neighboring fullerene molecules are 10.036(7), 10.636(7), and 10.537(9) Å. Each C60 molecule is linked to eight S8 molecules with ten shortened intermolecular contacts C...S 3.41(1)–3.52(2) Å. The average values of the C=C and C-C bond lengths are 1.32(3) and 1.47(3) Å, which attest to a significant degree of localization of electron density in the c60 molecule.
