Notes: [Auszug] Recently, rabbit complementary DNA (cDNA) prepared from the messenger RNA (mRNA) extracted from rabbit alveolar cells has been cloned in E. coli (H.I. et al., manuscript in preparation). Expression of the cloned cDNA modified to express the serum (mature) form of rabbit TNF in E. coli gave a ...

Notes: The drying and sintering processes require large quantities of energy. If this energy couldbe used more efficiently, less would be consumed. In this research, the effect of the microwave on themanufacturing process of ceramics where heat was needed was examined. We obtained the followingresults when oxide ceramics were dried and sintered by microwave technique: In drying process, slipcast bodies were dried rapidly by microwave drying and compared with those dried by conventionaldrying techniques. In sintering process, power consumption and efficiency were lower with thetime-control method than with the power-control method. The power-control method gave moreprecise temperature control under our experimental conditions

Notes: Cellulase was immobilized in a collagen fibril matrix, and no leakage of cellulase from the collagen fibril matrix was observed. The immobilized cellulase was more stable than the native cellulase. The substrate cellulose was hydrolyzed quantitatively with immobilized cellulase. The final reaction product was identified as glucose. Immobilized cellulase was used in a fluidized bed reactor where the pressure drop of the fluidized bed reactor was low and constant. Cellulose was hydrolyzed to glucose by the cellulase-bead fluidized bed reactor. The minimum flow velocity (Umf) was 0.5 cm/sec and the optimum flow velocity of the cellulose hydrolysis was 1 cm/sec.

Notes: The results of the investigation on the oxidative coupling polymerization reaction of 2.6-dimethylphenol in the presence of copper(II) chloride-pyridine-KOH complex (basic copper(II) complex) are reported. The yield of poly(2.6-dimethyl-4.4′-phenylene oxide) which is the C—O coupling product closely depends upon the copper(II) chloride concentration, the ratio of pyridine/copper(II) chloride, and the ratio of KOH/copper(II) chloride. However, the yield of 3.3′.5.5′-tetramethyl-4.4′-diphenoquinone, the C—C coupling product, scarcely changes with these reaction conditions. The rate of polymerization of 2.6-dimethylphenol under oxygen was much larger than that determined in an air atmosphere. The basic copper(II) chloride complex catalyst showed the unusual property that the electron spin resonance-detectable copper(II) ion in the basic copper(II) chloride complex was only 35 ± 5% using pure copper(II) chloride-pyridine complex not containing KOH as a standard. It has been found by means of ESR measurements that the basic copper(II) complex had the function of an one-electron transfer reagent.
