Abstract The dependence of the rate of dissolution of silver on the ratio of the components of the HBr/DMSO donor-acceptor electron transport system is extremal in nature. The maximum rate is observed for 83 mole % HBr. It has been proposed that the intermediate species, namely, the products of the reaction of the components of the system, the formation of which occurs upon the direct participation of the metal itself, are the oxidizing agent for silver.
