Notes: Studies of subgrain structures in Tl3AsSe3 have been performed by x-ray topography. Birefringent interference patterns show that a direct correlation exists between the subgrain structures and the optical homogeneity of the crystals. A quantitative measurement of lattice misorientation was performed from the interference patterns and compared with x-ray rocking measurements. The origin of the subgrains is also discussed in detail.

Notes: The effect of K2SO4 activator on the hydration of chemical anhydrite obtained from burned FGD-gypsum has been studied by different experimental techniques. Results obtained show that the degree of hydration increases when the K2SO4 concentrations increase from 0.5 to 3.3 wt%. Their heat evolution rate and maximum value also increase with the increase of K2SO4 concentration. The highest values were obtained when the hydration degree was about 50%. Also a correlation between the hydration degree and the total heat evolved was obtained. The X-ray and SEM/EDX studies have shown that K2SO4 is adsorbed at the surface of CaSO4 even within 5 min of hydration and a syngenite—a double salt K2SO4·CaSO4·H2O is formed (even in the presence of 1.0 wt% K2SO4). Also, important changes in the morphology of the dihydrate crystal are detected. Finally, in the presence of 1.0 wt% K2SO4 (water/anhydrite (W/A) ratio=0.33), it was found that the resonance frequency, modulus of elasticity, compressive strength, and tensile strength increase with the degree of hydration whereas the total porosity decreases.

Notes: Abstract Single crystals of AgGaS2 and AgGaSe2 were grown by a modified Bridgman-Stockbarger technique. Pieces of sizes 10 mm × 6 mm × 4 mm and 11 mm × 6 mm × 5 mm of AgGaS2 and AgGaSe2 free from lamellar twins, were cut from the crystals for detailed investigations. The results of infrared transmittance and absorbance measurements indicate that the optical quality of the annealed crystals was much better than that of the as-grown crystals. Experiments on thermal etching were also carried out to study the microscopic defects in the crystals.

Notes: Summary Regression analyses on grain yield of 20 hybrid and 13 composite varieties of pearl millet (Pennisetum typhoides (Burm. S. & H.)) evaluated at 19 sites in India were performed to assess their relative stability and to compare different measures of environmental values. A large portion of the significant genotype X environment interactions was attributed to the non-linear component and deviations mean squares (Sdi 2) were a very important parameter for selection of stable varieties. The mean grain yield was positively associated with regression coefficients and deviations mean squares. The hybrids MH 31, MH 35, MH 36 and MH 62 and composite populations MP 16, MP 31 and MP 36 possessed general adaptability. The use of dependent, independent and near-independent measures of environmental values has been found to have little influence on the general interpretation of regression analysis in pearl millet.

Abstract: Zusammenfassung Die thermische Zersetzung von ’Bis-2-Amino-5-Phenyl-1,3,4-Thiadiazol-Kupfer(II)-Sulfat’ wurde durch TG, DTA und DTG untersucht.
Notes: Abstract Thermal decomposition of bis 2-amino-5-phenyl-1,3,4-thiadiazole copper(II) sulphate has been studied by TG, DTA and DTG. The electrical conductivity of the compound in the solid state have also been measured at different temperatures. It is believed that decomposition is a nucleation controlled process and starts at the site of defects.
