Notes: [Auszug] Shipman and Cole6 recently found that the resistance of mice against X-irradiation increases greatly after subcutaneous injection of bee venom. In a single experiment they found one fraction of bee venom effective. This was identified as melittin. We used highly purified melittin and a larger ...

Description / Table of Contents: Abstract A simple and fast method is described for the preparation of small quantities of phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylcholine from egg yolk, brain, mitochondria, and commercial beefheart lecithin. The phospholipids were separated by preparative thin layer chromatography on silicagel G plates with different mixtures of CHCl3, CH3OH and water. As proof of their purity the molar ratios of glycerol, ester, vinylether, choline or amino group, respectively, to phosphorus were determined. Special microanalytical techniques were developed to carry out the five necessary determinations for each ease with only about 0.5 mg of substance. Phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylcholine from egg yolk and mitochondria are diester-phospholipids, whereas phosphatidylethanolamine from rat brain and phosphatidylcholine from beefheart consist to about one half of plasmalogen.
