Description / Table of Contents: Summary The analytical solution for the flow past a Guderley-profile in sonic flow is extended for lifting airfoils with sharp leading edge in smooth entry conditions. The distance of a detached bow wave from the leading edge of the profile at low supersonic speed is given and the flow past a cambered plate is treated shortly. Similar to the results for subsonic or supersonic flow, lift of the profiles with constant thickness is proportional to camber.

Notes: Analytical flow models in the near sonic domain of compressible flow are discussed as a supplementary background to elliptic continuation and fictitious gas design methods, to extend shock-free design into choked flow design, shock-wave construction, with the aim of developing new analysis programs and of developing experience for three-dimensional configuration design.
