Description / Table of Contents:
Determination of dynamic loads on marine-structures by means of operating load occumulating sensors (OLAS)A new developed optical system for monitoring fatigue loads which is already applied at aircraft construction was tested at the corrosion test stand in Helgoland. For fatigue load measuring thin metal foils of aluminium or tin are cemented onto the structure. During dynamic loading of the structure the metal foils change their reflectivity caused by structural changes of their surface topography. The reflectivity will be measured by a portable measuring instrument and represents an integral value for all occurred dynamic loads. Herewith conclusions on the number of cycles and the alternating strain amplitude are possible, when corresponding reference measurements are available. For operation in the sea a water proof, detachable protective cover was developed, to protect the measuring foils against corrosion. Test plates with measuring foils were set out for two years at the corrosion-test stand in different dipping zones and became evaluated. Hereby it was proved, that the system for monitoring fatigue loads also under the rough conditions of the sea e.g. at offshore-structures is applicable.
Notes:
