Notes: Summary A mean-field renormalization group method including the reaction field is applied to diluted Ising systems. Two-dimensional bond dilution and both two- and three-dimensional site dilution are considered. For low and intermediate dilution, the phase diagrams agree well with other predictions, while for large dilution (near the percolation threshold) pathologies may show up related to the choice of the reaction field at low temperature.

Notes: Summary In theZ n spin model on a finite square lattice of only eight sites, correlation functions are calculated and used for implementing a renormalization transformation for 2≤n≤10. Estimates for critical points and thermal and magnetic exponents are found in fair agreement with exact or Monte Carlo results. Forn≥5 the method describes rather accurately the ferromagnetic critical point at the bottom of the massless phase.

Notes: It is argued that a correct interpretation of the renormalization group results for the two-tolerant trail, as derived by Marqusee and Deutch, leads to the conclusion that this model belongs to the universality class of the self-avoiding walk, contrary to what these authors claim.

Notes: Abstract We show that the value of the spontaneous magnetization for the two-dimensional Ising model computed by Onsager is indeed, the appropriate derivative of the free energy with respect to the magnetic field. The argument is based on a simple application of the duality transformation.

Notes: Abstract The controversial 2-d, 3-state chiral Potts model is studied using transfer matrix finite size scaling. at Δ=0, we find dq N/dΔ∝N −4/5, whereq is the “wavevector”, Δ the chiral field, andN the strip width (N=4−10). The result is consistent with den Nijs's crossover exponent ϕ=1/6. With surface fields on the infinite free boundaries, exponents associated with bulk magnetizationy H, surface magnetizationy′ H, and surface susceptibility χ are computed vs. Δ; results are similar for $$\hat \Delta$$ ‖ or ⊥ to the infinite direction. Preliminary results are given for the bulk specific heat critical amplitudes, to test the universality of amplitude ratios. The interface wetting line is located for 0≦Δ≦1/4 using simple transfer matrix calculations of surface tensions in the solid-on-solid approximation. Overhangs or bubbles seem relatively unimportant at all temperatures.

Notes: Abstract Depinning of an interface from a rough self-affine wall delimiting an attractive substrate is described in terms of directed paths on a square lattice. Short range interactions are assumed and the phase diagram is determined by transfer matrix methods for several values of ζW, the roughness exponent of the wall. For all ζW the following scenario is observed. At a very low temperature T, the interface is not pinned for wall attraction energies below a certain ζW-dependent, nonzero threshold. This contrasts with the case of smooth walls, for which the threshold is zero. In a range of attraction energies just below the threshold, a pinning transition first occurs, as T increases, followed by a depinning one (reentrant depinning). This unusual reentrance phenomenon, in which, upon increasing T, dewetting is followed by wetting, is peculiar of self-affine roughness and does not occur, e.g., with a periodic substrate corrugation. The nature of both wetting and dewetting transitions is determined by the value of ζW. As found in related work, the two transitions are both continuous or both first-order, according to whether ζW;l/2, or ζW〉l/2, respectively. The border value ζ0=1/2 coincides with the intrinsic roughness of the interface in the bulk.
