Notes: The flow field and gas-bubble size during the process of aluminum melt degassing wereinvestigated in water model. A Φ400mm×400mm transparent water model and an impellor degassingdevice were used in this study. The instantaneous velocity fields of water and bubbles under themixture of rotary injector were measured with PIV velocity field measurement technique. Then thepictures of bubbles gained from PIV were analyzed with software to get the bubble size distribution. The results showed that bubble flow field and bubble size were influenced by rotary speed of rotor andgas flow-rate. With the increase of rotary speed of rotor, the horizontal velocity components ofbubbles became larger, the stagnant time of bubbles in water increaseed correspondingly and bubblesize became smaller. With the increase of gas flow-rate, the longitudinal velocity components ofbubbles became larger, the stagnant time of bubbles in water decreased correspondingly, and thebubble size became larger also

Notes: Metallurgical quality of roll casting sheet is crucial to ensure the performance of aluminumfoil. An electromagnetic purification system was installed in a twin roll casting line in order toimprove the molten metal cleanliness. Metallographic analysis shows that inclusion particles largerthan 10 μm can be eliminated from molten aluminum by electromagnetic purification and a totalinclusion removal efficiency of 75% is achieved additional to the filtration by a ceramic foam filter. The electromagnetic purification system operated reliably and consistently during the castingcampaign

Notes: A rapidly solidified Al-5Ti-1B master alloy prepared by the in-rotating-liquid spinningprocess has been investigated. It has been found that the in-rotating-liquid spinning process is apotential rapid solidification method to realize the continuous production of the master alloy wire on alarge scale. The microstructure of the Al-5Ti-1B was evidently improved after being rapidlysolidified. The agglomeration of the TiB2 particle was significantly decreased. Consequently, thegrain size of the purity aluminium refined by the rapidly solidified Al-5Ti-1B was reduced by 15%compared with that refined by the master alloy prepared under normal conditions

Notes: Nanostructured coatings are experiencing a rapid development in recent years due to theirpotential applications in a wide variety of technological areas. In order to improve the properties ofthermal barrier coatings, nanostructured 8 wt% yttria partial stabilized zirconia coatings were depositedby air plasma spraying with reconstituted nanoparticles on titanium alloy substrates. For comparison, theconventional counterparts were also fabricated. Their microstructures were investigated by usingtransmission electron micrograph and scanning electron micrograph. Their mechanical behaviors wereevaluated via Vickers microhardness test and tensile test. The results indicate that the nanostructuredzirconia coatings with original nanostructure and columnar grains have higher microhardness and adhesivestrength than the conventional counterparts. Both the nanostructured coating and the conventionalcoating exhibit a bimodal distribution of microhardness values, which are analyzed via Weibull statistics. This phenomenon is attributed to the presence of molten and non-molten parts in the coatings
