Notizen: [Auszug] We have tried to transfer the nucleic acids of a transformed cell line to normal cells, and to check whether functional viral nucleic acid had been transferred, by assaying the recipient cells for herpetic antigen. For the assay, we used immune lymphocytes since we found that the donor transformed ...

Notizen: [Auszug] The activities of these drugs, together with twenty-seven other rifamycin derivatives, were screened by plating eighty plaque forming units (p. f. u.) of various viruses on primary cultures of chick embryo fibroblasts. After the adsorption period, the cell sheet was overlaid with nutrient medium in ...

Notizen: Abstract This report describes two cases of rapidly progressive, multifocal transitional cell carcinomas of the bladder that developed in two patients after renal and cardiac transplantation, respectively. In both cases human papillomavirus (HPV) type 16 DNA was detected using the polymerase chain reaction DNA amplification method. To our knowledge, this HPV type has not been previously described in multifocal bladder transitional cell carcinoma in transplanted patients. Our findings suggest that HPV may play a major role in the development of rapidly progressive, multifocal transitional cell carcinoma in immunosuppressed patients.

Notizen: Summary Antibodies against measles antigens were titrated in the sera of 116 patients by means of complement-fixation and hemagglutination-inhibition tests; in the latter test, whole virions and Tween-ether split virions were used comparatively. The antibody titers were low in the 4 cases of measles encephalitis and in an important proportion of those cases of measles which were accompanied by mild fever. Most of the measles patients with sustained temperature had high antibody titers, as well as the 8 cases of modified measles which occurred in children previously vaccinated with inactivated virus. Sera from some of the latter cases differed from all the other sera studied by a high ratio of complement-fixation to hemagglutination-inhibition titers. In nearly all sera, the hemagglutination-inhibition titers were higher by a factor 4–8 when the split antigen was used instead of the whole virions, but this factor was increased to 50–62 in 5 of the 8 cases of subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (Van Bogaert's leucoencephalitis).

Notizen: Abstract Lymphocytes from a kidney grafted patient were specifically stimulated to incorporate thymidine in vitro by mitomycin C treated Hela cells infected with a Mason-Pfizer like virus (MPV). The thermolabile mutant of vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV tl) grown in leukocytes of this patient produced pseudotypes which were neutralized by the patient's sera and by rabbit anti-MPV sera. Coculture of the patients leukocytes with SIRC cells yielded virus populations with dual properties; those of MPV plus those of another virus which was not typed serologically but possessed the biological properties of typical C particles. The patient also had neutralizing antibodies to MPV, which were detected by inhibition of syncytium formation on KC cells and by neutralization of VSV tl (MPV) pseudotypes. Preliminary results on the frequency of similar findings in other kidney grafted patients are presented.
