Conclusions 1. Positions and the value of peaks of negative pressure and also of separated stagnant zones during flow past the closing elements of spherical, hemispherical, lenticular, and disk-shaped artificial heart valves, opening at an angle, are found. 2. The diffuser channel, compared with the cylindrical channel in which the valve is placed, reduces the maximal negative pressure on the surface of the closing element but increases the intensity of flow separation on them. The most intensive preparation, the highest negative pressure, and the highest velocity all arise during flow past the lenticular valves. The maximal velocity under these circumstances may exceed the critical value uc at which lysis of the blood cells takes place. 3. The disk-shaped valve opening at an angle has better hydrodynamic properties than valves of other designs investigated in this study.
