Description / Table of Contents:
Notes:
Summary Among 943 own patients with arterial reconstruction of the extracranial cerebral circulation only 80 were asymptomatic since 1973. Serious complications had been 1 postop. death of myocardial failure (21st day postop.) and 1 neurological deficit. During late follow-up 12 patients died mainly of myocardial infarction, restenosis twice caused neurological symptoms, twice no symptoms. Prophylactic carotid artery surgery should be restricted to carefully selected cases.
