    Notes: Summary In the most basic part of the binary system BaO−CuO two new compounds were identified corresponding to the Ba2CuO3 and Ba3CuO4 formulae. Another more oxidized phase of composition Ba2CuO3+δ was also obtained, which can exist in two crystalline modifications. For all these new substances the structural type and the lattice parameters are reported.

    Notes: Summary Pellets of sintered YBa2Cu3O7−δ with three different oxygen contents have been irradiated with fast neutron beams of energies 6.5, 3.3 and 4.4 MeV at fluences of 7.7·104, 1.3·105 and 1.4·109 n/cm2, respectively. The radiation damage has been investigated by comparing the critical temperature (T c mid ), the zero resistivity and the onset temperature before and after neutron irradiation. The critical current has been measured for a few samples in the same experimental conditions. In all transport measurements two different responses to the neutron radiation are observed and discussed.

    Description / Table of Contents: Riassunto Si è studiata la termoluminescenza dell'α-alumina registrando l'emissione di luce in funzione, simultaneamente, della temperatura e della lunghezza d'onda. Partendo da allumina amorfa, i campioni sono stati preparati mediante trattamenti termici nell'intervallo di temperatura da 850 a 1400°C. La luce registrata mostra due bande spettrali a 553 e 706 nm, emesse a temperature vicine a 500 K. Queste bande riappaiono nella regione attorno a 700 K con intensità ridotta. La banda a 553 nm svanisce nei campioni trattati a temperature al di sopra di 1200°C. I risultati sono paragonati ad un modello cinetico che spiega gli aspetti sperimentali più significativi. Vengono proposti alcuni argomenti qualitativi che potrebbero essere utili per identificare la natura dei difetti reticolari responsabili dell'emissione termoluminescente osservata.
    Abstract: Резюме Исследуется термолюминесценция α-корунда, регистрируя интенсивность светового излучения в зависимости от температуры и длины волны. Образды изготавливаются из аморфного корунда, используя термическую обработку в области температур от 850°C до 1400°C. Термолюминесценция обнаруживает две спектральных зоны 553 и 606 нм, излучаемые при температурах, близких к 500 K, которые снова появляются в области 700 K с уменьшенной интенсивностью. Зона 553 нм затухает в образцах, обработанных при температуре выше 1200°C. Этот результат сравнивается с кинетической моделью, которая объясняет наиболее сушественные экспериментальные особенности. Приводятся некоторые качественные аргументы, которые могут быть полезны для идентификации природы дефектов решетки, ответственных за наблюдаемое термолюминесцентное излучение.
    Notes: Summary The thermoluminescence of α-alumina was investigated by recording light emission simultaneouslyvs. temperature and wavelength. Samples were prepared, starting from amorphous alumina, by means of thermal treatments in the 850 to 1400°C temperature range. The recorded light exhibits two spectral bands at 553 and 706 nm emitted at temperatures close to 500 K, which reappear in the 700 K region with reduced intensity. The 553 nm band fades away in samples treated at temperatures exceeding 1200°C. The results are compared to a kinetic model which explains the most significant experimental features. Some qualitative arguments are advanced which could be useful in identifying the nature of the lattice defects responsible for the thermoluminescent emission observed.

    Notes: Summary Spectrally resolved thermoluminescent emission has been investigated in solids belonging to Al2O3−B2O3 and Al2O3−SiO2 systems. These solids, which are characterized by a structure like that of alumino-silicate mullite, contain a high density of oxygen and aluminum or boron lacunae. This fact favours the occurrence of both-sign interstitial ions acting as carrier traps. The results show a close similarity with those obtained when studying, with the same experimental method, the thermoluminescent emission of alumina. The overall analysis of data allows for reliable conclusions on the nature of crystal defects in these materials.

    Notes: Summary Bulk slabs of sintered YBCO were irradiated with monoenergetic protons at different energies (3.5 and 6.5 MeV) and different fluences, ranging from 1.8·1016 to 8.6·1016 p/cm2. The effects on intergrain critical currents of protons crossing the sample and the effects of protons implanting in the specimen, has been studied by means of a.c. susceptibility characterizations. D.c. hysteresis cycles were measured in low fields in order to investigate the modifications in the intergrain critical current density due to proton implantation. The main result is the evidence that the intergrainJ c response to the applied field can be modulated by means of the proton irradiation. Resistive measurements were also performed in order to investigate the complex transport phenomena in polycrystalline materials. Irradiation-induced effects on both superconducting- and normal-state resistivity are studied. The addition of extrinsic defects can lead to enhanced transport properties, emerging especially when a magnetic field is applied.

    Description / Table of Contents: Riassunto Il composto NH4FeF4, caratterizzato da strati di ottaedri (FeF6)3− alternati con strati NH 4 + , è stato studiato con la spettroscopia Mössbauer. I dati sperimentali, che evidenziano un ordine antiferromagnetico, sono stati interpretati col modello del campo molecolare per mezzi anisotropi. Si è trovato che la magnetizzazione è ortogonale agli strati ottaedrici e che gli assi ottaedrici sono inclinati di 17° rispetto alla direzione di magnetizzazione.
    Abstract: Резюме С помощью мëссбауэровской спектроскопии исследуется соединение NH4FeF4, характеризующееся слоями (FeF6)3−, которые чередуются с NH 4 + слоями. Экспериментальные данные, которые подтверждают антиферромагнитную упоряденность, сравниваются с моделью молекулярного поля для анизотропной среды. Обнаружено, что намагниченность ортогональна октаэдрическим слоям, а октаэдрические оси наклонены под углом 17° к направлению намагниченности.
    Notes: Summary The compound NH4FeF4, characterized by layers of (FeF6)3− octahedra alternating with NH 4 + layers, has been investigated by means of Mössbauer spectroscopy. Experimental data, which evidentiate an antiferromagnetic order, are compared with the molecular-field model for anisotropic media. Magnetization is found orthogonal to the octahedra layers and the octahedra axes are found to be tilted by 17° with respect to the magnetization direction.
