Notes: The influence of some processing conditions on the organoleptic quality of coffee beverage (grinding, proportion of coffee to water, temperature of water and pressure during brewing) has been investigated by panel sensory analysis and physico-chemical measurements (soluble contents, pH, acidity, viscosity, optical density, electrical conductivity and caffeine). The study has been performed on a standard ARABICA roasted coffee and with an experimental extraction machine (expresso type) permitting control of the processing conditions.A linear multiple regression analysis demonstrated that the brewing temperature and the grind-water ratio were the main parameters influencing the soluble content of the extract. They also influenced qualitatively the extract as shown by sensory analysis and physico-chemical properties. An attempt was made to optimize the brewing conditions in order to obtain a coffee beverage with definite organoleptic properties.

Notes: 1. In 72% of non-anaesthetized spinal cats, single volleys ascending from the sacral cord evoke long-lasting primary afferent depolarization in L7 segment. It occurs in the central terminals of cutaneous but not in Ia muscle afferents.2. Volleys descending to L7 segment evoke only short-lasting presynaptic depolarization.3. It is concluded that presynaptic inhibition in L7 segment produced by ascending volleys is more effective than that evoked by descending volleys.

Notes: m-Nitrophenol (m-NPH) occurs at room temperature in two solid modifications: monoclinic P21/n and orthorhombic P212121 [Pandarese, Ungaretti & Coda (1975). Acta Cryst. B31, 2671–2675]. The thermal vibrations and electronic-density distribution of the molecule in the orthorhombic structure have been analyzed in terms of Stewart's rigid pseudoatom model, using restricted Slater radial functions and angular multipole terms extending to actapoles for C, N and O and dipoles for H pseudoatoms. The net atomic charge and the in-crystal molecular dipole moment have been determined in order to understand the nature of the inter- and intramolecular charge transfer. The analysis suggests that aspherical pseudoatoms are essential for modeling the charge distribution in a noncentrosymmetric crystal. Careful consideration must also be given to the treatment of the H atoms, in the absence of complementary neutron diffraction data.

Notes: Summary In spinal cats both ipsi- and contralateral antidromic volleys in the 3rd sacral ventral roots produce recurrent inhibition of the monosynaptic reflex evoked by stimulation of the 1st caudal dorsal root and recorded from the corresponding ventral root.

Notes: Summary Depressor responses evoked by single volleys in the aortic nerve are more facilitated by conditioning volleys exciting C fibers in the same aortic nerve than in the contralateral one. Conditioning volleys in A fibers do not facilitate the testing depressor responses.

Notes: Abstract Spread of the dorsal root potentials (DRPs) along lower lumbar, sacral, and upper caudal segments of the cord has been studied in spinal cats. Ipsilateral DRPs produced by stimulation of L5 dorsal root with single volleys and recorded in consecutively more and more caudal segments gradually decrease and after passing 6 segments attain 47% of amplitude observed in L6 dorsal root. DRPs spreading cranially from Ca2 dorsal root along 6 segments decrease virtually to zero. Depolarizations spreading caudally show greater conduction velocity, are maintained during repetitive stimulation in larger number of segments and display larger occlusion than DRPs spreading cranially. These findings show the preponderance of depolarization spreading from lower lumbar cord to sacral and caudal segments over that produced in caudal parts of the cord and spreading cranially. The extent of cranial spread of DRPs, appearance of sudden increases in latency of DRPs and changes in effectiveness of stimulation in maintaining prolonged depolarization show correlations with neuronal arrangement of the substantia gelatinosa. This suggests that substantia gelatinosa subserves the spread of DRPs along the spinal cord.

Notes: Summary Ipsilateral dorsal root potentials evoked by volleys entering lumbar and sacral segments of the cord are largest at the level of entry of afferent volleys. Contralateral potentials resulting from stimulation of any of these nerves attain maximum amplitude in lower sacral and upper caudal segments.

Notes: Summary Conditioning volleys spreading along 3 segments of the cord produce larger facilitation of bilateral dorsal root potentials in sacral cord than volleys in neighbouring dorsal roots used to evoke the testing depolarization. Contralateral potentials are more facilitated by volleys descending from lumbar than ascending from caudal segments.

Notes: Abstract Multicomponent Zr-Ti-V-Ni-Cr-Fe and Zr-Ti-V-Ni-Cr alloy electrodes, with various Ti and Zr ratios, have been studied in alkaline solution by means of potentiodynamic current-overvoltage and galvanostatic overpotential-time responses during long-term continuous and intermittent charge-discharge cycles. The pressure-composition isotherms for absorption/desorption of hydrogen, evaluated from the equilibrium potential, have been compared with the gas phase isotherms. The kinetic data demonstrate the reversibility of hydrogen electrosorption in the investigated systems. An increased discharge efficiency has been established for electrodes with lower values of both the activation and diffusion resistance. The alloy with Fe and Ti:Zr at the atomic ratio 2:1 prepared by using vanadium-ferro-alloy is shown to meet the requirements for the negative electrode in secondary nickel-metal hydride batteries.
