Notes: [Auszug] This communication reports the composition of rain-water collected under a thirty-year old plantation of Pinus radiata D. Don in Whakarewarewa Forest, Rotorua Conservancy. The supply of nutrients to the soil in rain-water is compared with the return contained in the litter-fall from the stand. The ...

Notes: Summary. The mineral content of Elodea canadensis and Lagarosiphon major growing in two lakes near Rotorua showed seasonal variation and was influenced by the nutrient status of the water. Large quantities of L. major occur in Lake Rotorua and the average mineral content found was 3·9% N, 0·5% P, 2·6% K and 0·7% Mg (dry-weight basis), a level which indicates potential commercial value.Variations de la composition chimique de deux mauvaises herbes aquatiques des lacs de Nouvelle-Zélande

Notes: [Auszug] Wareing's observations on the location of male and female cones in P. sylvestris apply also to Pinus radiata; and, while his observations were made on seedlings, the behaviour of vegetatively propagated material from mature trees is comparable, except for the fact that cones appear at a younger age ...

Notes: Summary Branch development inP. radiata seedlings and young trees is affected by the level of nitrogen supply. A marginal nitrogen deficiency reduces branch and stem diameter growth much more than it does stem height growth. On soils of low N content mature trees have better than normal form. Fertilizing young trees may have undesirable side effects such as promoting branch growth and reducing leader dominance.
