Notes:
There was an inverse relationship between mycelial growth rate in culture and the numbers of particles of mushroom virus four found by electron microscopy in sporophores submitted for disease diagnosis during 1974–76. Mycelial isolates from sporophores in which few virus particles were detected often showed no decrease in growth rate. Electron microscopy alone is considered to be a satisfactory method of detecting infection by mushroom viruses.
