    Notizen: Partial internal energy distributions of the hydroxyl reaction products of O(1D)+H2, HD, and D2 reactions are presented. Inverted rotational distributions, preferential population of the π+ lambda doubling sublevels, and statistical population of the spin sublevels are observed. A slight preferential formation of the OD vs OH reaction products observed is measured for the reaction of O(1D)+HD. Surprisal analysis of these results indicates both dynamical and kinematic constraints on the reaction dynamics. Comparison of these results with published model calculations suggest that an insertion mechanism to form a highly energetic collision complex dominates the reaction dynamics.

    Notizen: Summary The genetic nature of resistance to four Australian strains of Puccinia recondita was studied in the cultivar Timgalen and in three entries of the 1963 ISWRN, viz, 25 (W3300) 318 (W3301) and 409 (W3303). Seedling resistance of Timgalen was controlled by the dominant gene Lr3 and by a recessive gene, tentatively designated lrT. A third gene, identical with one in C.I.12632, was operating in adult plants only. In each of the three varieties W3300, W3301, W3303 the same dominant and the same recessive gene were operating in seedlings. The former may be identical with a major gene previously reported in Klein Titan, Frontana and Rio Negro. The latter gene was different from lrT of Timgalen. In addition, W3301 and W3303 each carried a dominant factor being only operative in the mature plant stage.

    Notizen: Abstract Sr15, a new gene giving resistance to certain strains of the wheat stem rust organism has been found in several varieties including Norka and Thew. It is located on chromosome 7A (XI), and is closely linked with the genes controlling resistance to certain strains of the organisms causing wheat leaf rust and powdery mildew. By the use of Sr15 in conjunction with genes present in stocks previously described, it has been possible to subdivide standard race 21 of stem rust into 24 components. The significance of this in relation to sources of resistance used in breeding is discussed.

    Notizen: Summary The genetics of resistance to stem rust in 3 cultivars of common wheat, namely Gamut, Timgalen and W 3198 was studied. The variety Gamut was found to possess the genes Sr6, Sr9b, Sr 11 and one previously undescribed gene designated Sr Gt. The latter gene conditions a ‘2=2−’ infection type to all Australian strains including those designated ‘1, 2, 3’. Timgalen was found to carry 5 genes, namely Sr5, Sr6, Sr8, SrTt and srT. The presence of the gene SrTt (identical to the resistance of C.I. 12632, a derivative of Triticum timopheevi) in Timgalen is puzzling as no variety with this gene figured significantly in its pedigree. W3198 carried the genes Sr11, Sr13, and sr17 derived from Gabo, Khapstein and Hofed 1200 respectively. The study suggested that as a general principle, plant breeders should aim at a broad genetic base in resistant cultivars.
