Abstract. The case history is presented of a patient in whom palatal pigmentation developed following prolonged treatment with amodioquine (camoquin) for systemic lupus erythematosus. In the past there has been dubiety about the nature of the pathological pigmentation in such cases. Light microscopic investigations gave the usual staining reactions for melanin, and ultrastructural studies confirmed that melanin was present in the epithelium and in macrophages in the underlying connective tissues.
