Notes: Summary We start with a measurem on a measurable space (Ω,A), decomposable with respect to an Archimedeant-conorm ⊥ on a real interval [0,M], which generalizes an additive measure. Using the integral introduced by the second author, a Radon-Nikodym type theorem, needed in what follows, is given. The integral naturally leads to a ⊥-decomposable measurem on the space ℱ of all measurable functions from Ω to [0, 1]. The main result of the present paper is the converse of this, namely that, under natural conditions, any ⊥-decomposable measurem on ℱ can be represented as an integral of a certain Markov-kernelK. We extend this representation to measures $$\tilde m$$ on ℱ which have values in a set of distribution functions. These results generalize the work done by the first author in the case of additive measures.

Notes: Abstract During picornavirus infection replication of genomic RNA occurs in membrane-associated ribonucleoprotein complexes. These replication complexes contain different nonstructural viral proteins with mostly unknown function. To examine the function of nonstructural picornaviral proteins in more detail, cDNA of foot-and-mouth-disease virus (FMDV) strain O1 Lausanne was cloned into lambda ZAP II, and different parts of the P3-coding sequence were expressed in E. coli by the T7 polymerase system. Expression products constituted (a) fusion proteins composed of N-terminal leader peptide of bacteriophage T7 π10 protein fused to FMDV P3-sequences of different lengths, (b) translation products of authentic P3-region genes, and (c) carboxy-terminally truncated 3A proteins. Expression products were characterized by NaDodSO4-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, immunoblotting, as well as electron and immunoelectron microscopy. We show here that in the T7 polymerase system a high level of expression of 3A-containing peptides is achieved in E. coli. Remarkably, the expression of 3A-derived proteins induced a dramatic intracellular membrane proliferation in E. coli cells, similar to the vesicle induction observed in FMDV-infected cells. By immunoelectron microscopy, 3A-reactive material was found associated with these membranes. We hypothesize that the FMDV 3A protein is instrumental in eliciting intracellular membrane proliferation in infected cells as a prerequisite for viral RNA replication.

Notes: Abstract The title compound (1) is hydrolysed at pH=0–2 to the new compounds 1-thiocarbamoyl-5-methyl-3.3-diphenylpyrrolidin-2-one (3) and the tetrahydrotriazine derivative (4). These compounds, together with 5-methyl-3.3.-diphenylpyrrolidin-2-imine (5), are the stable end-products of the reaction. The expected 5-methyl-3.3.-diphenyl-1-thiocarbamoyl-pyrrolidin-2-imine (6) is formed either as an intermediate or an end-product according to the conditions of hydrolysis. Its formation is analogous to that of the isomeric 5-methyl-3.3.-diphenyl-2-pyrrolidinylidene-thiourea (9) from 1-(N-methoxymethyl)-3-(5-methyl-3.3.-diphenyl)-2-pyrrolidinylidene)-thiourea (2) by cleavage of the methoxymethyl group.

Description / Table of Contents: Contributions to the Chemistry of Boron, 1411). Unexpected Formation of a Bis(amino)borane: Synthesis and Structure of Bis(benzyl-tert-butylamino)boraneThe reaction of BCl3 with 3 molar equivalents of lithium benzyl-tert-butylamide produces the bis(amino)borane 2 in 29% yield. According to an X-ray structure determination the compound crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group C2/c, and the molecule possesses almost C2 symmetry. The mean BN bond lenght is 142 pm, and the C2N planes are twisted by an average of 23.8° versus the HBN2 plane.

Description / Table of Contents: Contributions to the Chemistry of Boron, 162. The Reaction of Hydrogen Chloride with (tert-Butylimino)(tetramethylpiperidino)borane and its Diazadiboretidine DimerHydrogen chloride adds to the amino-imino-borane 1 to give tmpB(Cl)NHC(CH3)3 (3) (tmp = 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidino group), which is also the first product to be isolated in the reaction of HCl with [tmp-B = NC(CH3)3]2 (2). Further interaction leads to the salt tmpHBC[NH-C(CH3)3]Cl (7c), which reacts with HCl to finally yield [tmpH2]Cl. Aminolysis of tmpBCl2 (9) with tert-butylamine produces no diazadiboretidine 2 but 3 and tmpB[NHC(CH3)3]2 (10). - The X-ray structure analysis of 2 (monoclinic, P21/n, Z = 2) reveals a point group symmetry Ci for this molecule. Its planar B2N2 four-membered ring has the shape of a slightly diamond distorted square. The tmp groups are almost orthogonally oriented towards the B2N2 ring. All BN bond lengths are equal (BN 146.7 pm).

Notes: Contributions to the Chemistry of Boron, 154. Addition of Trimethylsilyl Compounds and Some Other Electrophiles to (tert-Butylimino)-(tetramethylpiperidino)boraneThe amino-imino borane 3 adds methyl triflate and triflic acid to form tricoordinated borane derivatives (1, 4). In contrast, trimethylsilyl triflate and trimethylsilyl iodide yield salts (2, 5) of the [tert-butyl(trimethylsiyl)amino](tetramethylpiperidino)boron(1+) cation containing a dicoordinated boron atom.
