Notes: A new thermal spraying technique, electro-thermal explosion directional spraying(EEDS), was used to prepare NiAl intermetallic coatings. The microstructure, elements distributionand phase structures were determined by means of SEM, EDAX and X-Ray diffraction, respectively. Micro-mechanics properties were tested by using nano-indentation tester. The wearresistance of the coating was also investigated. Results showed that NiAl coating was characterizedby compact construction. The main phase of the coating was Ni-Al and the content of oxide waslittle. The obvious elements diffusion showed that the bond between the coating and the substratewas metallurgical one. The nano-hardness and the modulus were 7.6 GPa and 218.8 GPa,respectively. The coatings processed good wear resistance and the main wear failure mechanismwas the micro-plowing

Notes: The exhaust pipe of a heavy duty vehicle, due to its harsh operating environment, issubject to corrosion caused by high temperature oxidization, chlorination and sulfuration, therefore, corrosion occurs very easily, which affects normal operation of the engine. The exhaust pipe of theengine can be protected by means of electro-thermal explosion spray-coating technique. Thecorrosion-resistant ability of coating in high temperature environment is surveyed respectively. Themicro organizational structure of coating is studied in combination with SEM, EDS and other teststo search for corrosion-resistant principle of the coating in an attempt to improve thecorrosion-resistance of the exhaust pipe of the engine

Notes: Cored wires and high velocity arc spraying (HVAS) technologies have been applied toproduce Zn-Al-Mg-RE coating on A3 steels. The durability of coating in terms of corrosionresistance is the focus of this paper. The detailed degradation mechanism has been investigated usingelectrochemical-monitoring techniques supported by precise pre-test and post-test microscopicalexamination using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD).Zn-Al-Mg-RE coating shows a typical aspect of layered heterogeneous structure, the existing ofZnAl2O4 and MgAl2O4 implies the good anti-corrosion feature. The polarization curves showed thatZn-Al-Mg-RE coating exhibits passive behavior at 0.5h and 16h immersion, but at 600h, it begins todissolute. In contrast, the anti-corrosion performance isn’t cut down. The corrosion potential movesto the noble direction step by step, along with the current density drops gradually. After corrosion, ithas been observed that the coating surface is jointed by flaky lamellar products and dense withoutobvious defects and pores. It is postulated that with the addition of RE, the porosity of the coating isreduced, meanwhile, the stability of the products layer can reinforce the self-sealing effect of thecoating distinctively
