Notes: CdAs2O6 is isotypic with other metaarsenates MAs2O6 (M = Ca, Mn, Ni, Co, Hg, Pb) and adopts the PbSb2O6 structure type. The Cd and As atoms are situated on positions with site symmetry (\overline 3m) and (32), respectively. They are coordinated octahedrally by O atoms with distances d(Cd—O) = 2.302 (2) Å and d(As—O) = 1.826 (1) Å.

Notes: The title compound, bis(pyridine-N)mercury(II) dichromate(VI), [Hg(C5H5N)2][Cr2O7], is the first structurally determined representative of metal dichromates with additional pyridine ligands of general formula [M(py)n]mCr2O7 (py = pyridine) and can be used for a quick assay method to quantify HgII ions in solution. Two distinct Hg atoms, both located on special positions with symmetry 2 and \overline 1, respectively, are coordinated octahedrally by two axial N atoms of pyridine rings at short distances \overline {\it d}(Hg—N) = 2.101 Å and four equatorial O atoms of dichromate groups at longer distances \overline {\it d}(Hg—O) = 2.620 Å. The dichromate group has a skew conformation with a bridging angle of 138.62 (17)°.

Notes: Lead fluoride iodide adopts the matlockite (PbFCl) structure type and is isotypic with other fluoride halides MFX (M = Ca, Sr, Ba, Sm, Eu, Pb; X = Cl, Br, I). The Pb and I atoms are situated on positions with site symmetry 4mm and the F atom on a position with site symmetry \overline 4m2. The Pb atom is surrounded by four F atoms and four I atoms at the vertices of a square antiprism with distances of d(Pb—F) = 2.5631 (5) Å and d(Pb—I) = 3.3613 (7) Å.

Notes: Synthetic schuetteite [trimercury(II) dioxide sulfate(VI)], Hg3(SO4)O2, has been prepared under hydrothermal conditions starting from HgSO4 (520 K, 10 d) in demineralized water. The crystal structure comprises infinite two-dimensional cationic nets with an overall composition of [Hg3O2]2+, and disordered SO42− tetrahedra situated in the interstices of the nets.

Notes: Cd2As2O7 crystallizes in the thortveitite structure type and is isotypic with other MII2As2O7 diarsenates(V) (M = Mg, Mn, Co, Ni, Ca). The bridging O atom of the diarsenate group shows large thermal motion perpendicular to the As—O—As axis. No phase transition has been observed down to 193 K.

Notes: Single crystals of mercury(II) polyphosphate, Hg(PO3)2, were prepared from HgO in an acidic polyphosphate melt. The structure is isotypic with α-Cd(PO3)2 and comprises infinite polyphosphate chains with a period of four phosphate units. Chains of the form 1∞[PO3−] are linked by Hg2+ to form a three-dimensional network. The Hg atom is located at the centre of a distorted octahedron of O atoms with distances 2.173 (5) 〈 (Hg—O)mean 〈 2.503 (6) Å. The [HgO6] polyhedra form zigzag-like chains of the form 1∞[HgO2O4/2] parallel to the c axis.
