    Notes: The cerium oxidation state in novel calixarene-supported cerium(IV) β-diketonatecomplexes [p-tBu-calix[4](OMe)2(O)2]Ce(acac)2 (1) and [p-tBu-calix[4](OMe)2(O)2]Ce(hfac)2 (2),which are a new class of potential precursors for homogeneous oxidative transformations, has beendetermined using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Cerium oxidation states between 3.6and 3.65 were detected, distinctly different from their nominal value of +4. An X-ray inducedphotoreduction of these compounds was detected. Because of the observed stability of the X-raymodified oxidation state under ambient conditions this effect might be used for a long-standing finetuning of the Ce oxidation state in cerium calixarenes

    Notes: This article attempts to give a uniform and coherent analysis of the semantics and syntax of negation, with special emphasis on negative concord (NC) constructions. It is argued that negation is semantically a tripartite quantifier binding the event variable in its restriction. In syntax, this logical form corresponds to a structure where a NegP is present with Neg ° (normally) hosting the negative particle and a specifier as a checking position in the Minimalist sense. As a consequence, negative indefinites are held to be weak indefinites with a formal feature NEG which has to be checked away (thus obtaining Neg absorption). Additionally, some new data are introduced showing that even English style negative indefinites are analysable as non-negated weak indefinites.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Auf Grund unserer Ergebnisse und Erfahrungen mit Verbundosteosynthesen im Tierversuch und in der Klinik halten wir die röntgenologisch sichtbare Callusformation auch bei stabiler Verbundosteosynthese für eine normale nekrosebedingte Art der Frakturheilung. Während der Reiz- oder Unruhecallus zuerst am Ort der größten Unstabilität, also im Verlauf der vascularisierten Bruchenden entsteht, finden wir den Nekrosecallus zuerst entfernt vom Bruchspalt, am Übergang der nekrotischen in die vitale Corticalis, um dann bei Stabilität die Corticalisnekrose zunehmend zu überbrücken. An Hand von klinischen Beispielen von Plattenosteosynthesen — ohne Verwendung von Knochenzement — sprechen wir dann von Nekrosecallus, wenn bei stabilen Verhältnissen Corticalisnekrosen rascher überbrückt werden, als die direkte End zu End-Konsolidierung der Fragmentenden erfolgt. Eine Voraussetzung dafür ist die direkte Nachbarschaft eines gutdurchbluteten Weichteilmantels. Die periostale Blutversorgung tritt bei dieser Form der Knochenbruchheilung in den Vordergrund. Durch eine autologe Spongiosaplastik kann der Heilvorgang unterstützt und beschleunigt werden.
    Notes: Summary Our clinical and experimental experiences and results of internal fixation using acrylic cement and plates show, that the normal course of fracture healing is characterized by radiologically visible callus formation, inspite of stability. We distinguish between the “irritation or unstability callus”, visible along the fracture line, and the “necrosis callus” starting from the living cortex on each side, to bridge under stable conditions the necrotic fragment ends. Some clinical examples after rigid plate fixation—without using acrylic cement—demonstrate the bridging by the “necrosis callus” before the fragment ends join together directly. The periosteal blood supply is dominating and well vascularized muscles must be provided adjacent. The union of the fracture can be supported and accelerated by autogenous bone grafts.

    Notes: Abstract Infrared absorption by CO and CO2 adsorbed on NaCl (film) and NaCl(100) single crystal surfaces has been measured under ultrahigh vacuum conditions as a function of temperature and pressure, using grating and FTIR transmission-absorption spectroscopy. The absorption line of a monolayer of CO on NaCl(100) due to the stretching vibration is extremely narrow (〈2 cm−1) and onlyp-polarized light is absorbed at oblique incidence. Resonant desorption in CO-NaCl (film) has been detected. Thev 3 absorption of a monolayer of CO2 on NaCl(100) appears as a doublet.

The same configuration is observed for N-phenyl- and N-methyl-picolinecarboxylic acid thioamide (6a and b).
    Notes: Spektroskopische Untersuchungen an N1.N1-disubstituierten (2) und N1.N1.N3-trisubstituierten Amidrazonen (1) ergeben, daß diese ausschließlich in der Amidrazon-Konfiguration C mit intramolekularer Wasserstoffbrücke vorliegen. Die gleiche Konfiguration ergibt sich für N-Phenyl- und N-Methyl-picolinsäurethioamid (6a bzw. b).
