Notes: Abstract An automated quasi three-dimensional finite element grid generation method is presented for particular three-dimensional complex connected domain, across which some are simply connected two-dimensional.regions and some are multiply connected two-dimensional regions. A subdivision algorithm based on the variational principle has been developed to ascertain the smoothness and orthogonality of the generated grid in any cross sections. Smooth transition between the simply and multiply connected regions is maintained. For illustration, the method is applied to generate a finite element three-dimensional grid for human above knee stump.

Notes: Abstract This paper deals with the limit analysis of rigid perefectly plastic body under the combined action of initial constant loadings and proportional loadings. Using the von Mises yielding condition and the finite element technique, we present an efficient algorithm based on the mathematical programming formula of the classical kinematic theorem of plasticity theory. This algorithm includes an iterative procedure which produces a monotonically decrescent sequence converging to an upper bound of the real limit load. The results of some numerical examples are presented and show the stable convergency of the new algorithm.

Notes: Abstract From the generalized first law of thermodynamics for an irreversible thermodynamical system, a new set of governing equations for the mixture theory is derived based on the triphasic model for mechano-electrochemical mixtures. It is shown that, in the case of electroneutral solution, a new biphasic mixture theory including the electrochemical effects can be derived from the new governing equations. The chemical-expansion stress representing both the influences of deformation on the fixed charge density and the electric potential of fixed charge field is given. For comparison and verification purposes, the numerical solution for a confined compression problem of a charged hydrated soft tissue is computed using the multiquadric method.
