Notes: To investigate the feasibility of using indium to replace Ga as an agent for silicon surface cleaning at lower substrate temperature in ultrahigh vacuum, we have examined the in-diffusion of indium and the surface defects introduced into silicon for various indium desorption processes. TEM, SEM, AES, SIMS, EDAX, and DLTS, as well as spreading resistance measurements, were used to characterize the samples. For the dynamic desorption case, which simulated the actual cleaning procedure, no significant surface defects were identified, nor was there any indium in the near surface region of the silicon substrate.

Notes: It is shown that the propagation of transverse disturbances in free-molecule flow could be either diffusive or wave-type dependent upon the averaging process. Parallel to the reasoning in the continuum limit, we conclude that the process is governed by the classical transverse wave equation with the isothermal speed of sound as the propagation speed. Furthermore, the governing equation is invariant under Galilian transformation.

Notes: Abstract: Three new bands in 174Ta have been identified by using the 160Gd(19F,5n) reaction at beam energies of 87 MeV and 96 MeV. Nilsson configurations are assigned to these bands. In the 9/2−[514]p+5/2−[512]n band, the AB neutron crossing occurs at a rotational frequency of 0.30 MeV. This is indicative of the disappearance of the evidence for a reduction in neutron pair correlations.

Notes: Abstract The inverse relations of the isoparametric mapping for the 8-node hexahedra are derived by using the theory of geodesics in differential geometry. Such inverse relations assume the form of infinite power series in the element geodesic coordinates, which are shown to be the skew Cartesian coordinates determined by the Jacobian of the mapping evaluated at the origin. By expressing the geodesic coordinates in turn in terms of the isoparametric coordinates, the coefficients in the resulted polynomials are suggested to be the distortion parameters of the element. These distortion parameters can be used to sompletely describe the inverse relations and the determinant of the Jacobian of the mapping. The meanings of them can also be explained geometrically and mathematically. These methods of defining the distortion measures and deriving the inverse relations of the mapping are completely general, and can be applied to any other two-or three-dimensional isoparametric elements.
