    Notizen: Some basic theoretical issues of the Jovian atmospheric dynamics are discussed. Those include the depth of the motions, thermal convection both with deep and shallow configurations, the two-dimensional turbulence theory and its relevance. The refractive index analysis is suggested to interpret the coherent structures like Jupiter's Great Red Spot in terms of Charney–Drazin constraint based on the observations. A possibility of Jovian data assimilation is proposed as a future direction.

    Notizen: Abstract Linear Rossby wave dispersion relationships suggest that Jupiter’s Great Red Spot (GRS) is a baroclinic structure embedded in a barotropic shearing zonal flow. Quasi-geostrophic (QG) two-layer simulations support the theory, as long as an infinitely deep zonal flow is assumed. However, once a finite depth of the lower layer is assumed, a self-interaction of the baroclinic eddy component produces a barotropic radiating field, so that the GRS-like eddy can no longer remain compact. Compactness is recovered by explicitly introducing a deep dynamics of the interior for the lower layer, instead of the shallow QG formulation. An implication of the result is a strong coupling of the GRS to a convectively active interior.

    Notizen: Abstract An aramid resin, poly(p-phenylene terephthalamide) (PPTA), was electrodeposited on an indium-tin oxide electrode as a mechanically stable film from a dimethyl sulfoxide solution. Two aniline derivatives, o-phenylenediamine and o-aminophenol, were electrooxidized from H2SO4 aqueous solutions using the PPTA film-coated electrode. The PPTA film was permeable to the aniline derivatives, and the derivatives were electrooxidized on the electrode surface. When the derivatives were electrooxidized, the film immobilized the corresponding oligomer species as well as the polymers plain (o-phenylenediamine) (PoPD) and poly(o-aminophenol) (PoAP), and the deposited amount of the polymers was increased by the PPTA film. The immobilized amount of PoAP was greater than that of PoPD because of the 1,4-substituted structure of PoAP. In the PPTA film, both PoPD and PoAP were electronically stabilized, and they became durable against oxidative degradation.

    Notizen: Abstract The behavior of the isolated vortices over the topographic-βis considered with the quasi-geostrophic two-layer model, in the limit of very shallow upper layer, in the absence of planetary-β. The results are compared with the observed Kurshio warm-core rings. When a ring drifts southward (northward) relative to the meridional mean current, it radiates (does not radiate) Rossby waves in the lower layer. Even when the lower layer is radiating, the decaying is very slow as long as the ring drifts closely to a background current.

    Beschreibung / Inhaltsverzeichnis: Summary Thirty-four chronic myringitis cases were examined by otoscopy, pure tone audiometry, tympanometry, skull X-rays, and bacteriologic study of otorrhea. Five atypical cases are presented in detail. Three of these five cases had a perforation of the tympanic membrane preceding the appearance of typical chronic myringitis. The remaining two cases showed a transient small tympanic membrane perforation during the long course of chronic myringitis. These cases suggest that chronic myringitis could occur in some chronic suppurative otitis media and that myringitis could cause tympanic membrane perforation.
    Notizen: Zusammenfassung Vierunddreißig Patienten mit chronischer Myringitis wurden untersucht mittels Otoskopie, Tonaudiometrie, Tympanometrie, Röntgenaufnahmen des Ohres und bakteriologische Untersuchungen des Otorrhöes. Fünf atypische Fälle wurden ausführlich vorgestellt. Drei von diesen Fällen erlebten eine Trommelfellperforation vor dem Ausbruch der typischen, chronischen Myringitis. Die übrigen Fälle zeigten eine kleine, vorübergehende Trommelfellperforation während des langen Verlaufs der chronischen Myringitis. Diese Krankheitsfälle zeigen an, daß die chronische Myringitis während chronischer Mittelohrentzündung vorkommen und auch eine Trommelfellperforation verursachen kann.

    Notizen: Abstract To improve the electrical conductivity of LiClO4–poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) complex, nonconductive polyaniline (NPANI) was employed as an additive. The electrical conductivity of the PEO–LiClO4–NPANI electrolyte was at least ten times that of the original PEO–LiClO4 electrolyte. The amine and/or imine nitrogen atoms in the NPANI polymer chain as well as the oxygen atoms in the PEO poly-merchain attracted the Li+ ions, and ion-dipole interaction occurred. The interaction enhanced the mobility of the ClO4 − ions. The positively charged nitrogens were electronically stabilized in the entire polymer chain because NPANI had conjugated π electrons. The mechanism is unique and different from those of other polymer additives. It is the very first example in which NPANI was employed as the additive for the PEO solid electrolyte and in which NPANI was found to be an effective additive. In addition, the NPANI addition hardly affected the physical properties of the PEO matrix such as the glass transition temperature and the melting temperature.

    Notizen: Polypyrrole (PPy) was deposited electrochemically on a platinum plate from a nitric acid solution of pyrrole. The PVC/PPy composite film was finally obtained by casting poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) onto the PPy electrode from a tetrahydrofuran solution of PVC. The prepared composite film was irradiated at 90°C with a low-pressure mercury lamp in the stream of hydrogen gas saturated with steam, and the PVC film was dehydrochlorinated, leading to the formation of conjugated polyene. The electrical conductivity (σ) of the PVC film in the irradiated composite film was reveled: σ=2.51 × 10-5S cm-1. By iodine doping, σ was further enhanced up to 5.04 X 10-3 S cm-1. The tensile strength of the irradiated composite film became larger than that of the original PVC film; i.e., the stress at break was: 461 (composite film); 401 kg cm-2 (PVC). These results were brought about by the doping of radical species to the conjugated polyene. The anion, NO-3, doped during the electrodeposition of PPy was photodecomposed to generate radical NO2 and this species was doped to the polyene, resulting in the formation of electrically conductive PVC and mechanically improved composite film. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

    Notizen: A conducting polymer, poly(o-phenylenediamine) (PoPD), has been obtained as stable film onto an electrode surface by the electropolymerization of o-phenylenediamine in 0.1 mol dm-3 H2SO4. The film thickness did not exceed 0.85 μm because of its low electrical con-ductivity. The virgin “doped” polymer film was soluble in dimethylsulfoxide N, N-dimeth-ylformamide, acetone, and tetrahydrofuran without any pretreatment. The highest solubility obtained was 17 g dm-3 in dimethylsufoxide. A cast film of PoPD on a substrate was prepared from its dimethylsulfoxide solution. The mean molecular weight of PoPD was found to be 11,000 with the gel permeation chromatography. The STM observation exhibited that the cast film was considerably uniform compared to the electrodeposited film. The cyclic voltammogram of such film showed a reversible redox property accompanied with excellent electrochromism between transparent yellow and brown. It was suggested from the 1H-FTNMR and FTIR spectra and the elemental analysis that the polymeric backbone has 1, 4-substituted benezenoid-quinoid structure. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
