Notizen: By using growth striation technique, an acoustic superlattice of barium sodium niobate crystals, the single crystals with the periodic laminar ferroelectric domain structures, has been prepared. High-frequency resonance in the range of 200–400 MHz in such materials has been realized experimentally. The experimental results indicate that the application of acoustic devices with low acoustic loss operating at high frequencies is expected.

Notizen: Soil nailing is a widely used technique for stabilizing slopes and excavations. In all currentdesign methods, the nail-soil interface shear strength, that is, the pull-out resistance of a soil nail is animportant parameter which controls the design and safety assessment of the soil nailing system. Thepressure grouting is a cost effective method for increasing the soil nail pull-out resistance and in turnimproving the performance of the nailed structure. In this paper, a three dimensional (3-D) finiteelement (FE) model for pull-out tests is established and verified by comparing simulated results withmeasured data. This model is then used to simulate the effect of grouting pressure on the soil nailpull-out resistance

Notizen: An Elastic Plastic-Damage (EPD) model is developed to model the softening behaviour ofthe cement-soil admixture based on continuous damage mechanics. The softening behaviour isconsidered to be characteristic outcome of the material degradation due to damage in material.Material degradation is modelled by reducing progressively the stiffness and yield stress of thematerial when the damage variable has attained a critical index. The basic equations of the model arederived and presented. A Fortran program for this model has been developed and implemented into afinite element code ABAQUS. In order to evaluate the applicability of this model, several unconfinedcompression tests are simulated using ABAQUS with this model. The computed results are comparedwith measured data and good agreement is achieved

Notizen: In this paper, a diatomaceous soft rock is studied. Triaxial tests had been conducted on this soft rock. From the test results, it is found that the stress-strain curve of this soft rock has a notable strain-softening tendency. In order to study its time-dependent stress-strain behavior, a constitutive model that can describe not only the strain-hardening behavior, but also the strain-softening behavior must be constructed. Based on Perzyna’s fundamental assumptions of the elastic visco-palstic theory, a visco-plastic flow rule, and Yin and Graham’s 3-D elastic visco-palstic constitutive model (3-D EVP model), the constitutive formulation under a triaxial stress state is obtained in this paper. The derived formulation can be used to simulate the time-dependent stress-strain behavior of both consolidated undrained and consolidated drained triaxial tests of soils and rocks. In this paper, the constitutive formulation is used to simulate the time-dependent stress-strain behavior of consolidated undrained triaxial tests of the soft rock studied in this paper. The simulated results are compared with the triaxial test results. The comparison of the results shows that model predictions agree well with measured results. This demonstrates that the EVP model can be used to describe the time-dependent stress-strain behavior of the soft rock studied in this paper

Notizen: One small-scale physical model test on the PVD (Prefabricated Vertical Drain) treatedHong Kong marine clay was simulated using finite element method (FEM) in this study. A UserMATerial (UMAT) subroutine describing an Elastic Visco-Plastic (EVP) constitutive model wasdeveloped and incorporated into one commercial finite element code ABAQUS. A degressivepermeability of the PVD strip was included to consider variations of its permeability during theconsolidation process. The UMAT and the adopted reducing technique were demonstrated to beeffective by good agreement between the observed consolidation settlement and excess pore waterpressures and the simulated ones

Notizen: Soil nailing, developed from the New Austrian Tunnelling Method, has been widely usedin many countries and regions in the world since the 1970’s. This technique is used to stabilize in situsoil mass by installing a large number of closely spaced unstressed inclusions into the soil mass toincrease its strength and stability. Since the mid 1970’s, several design methods have been proposedbased on laboratory and field tests. Among the design criteria in these methods, the pull-out resistanceof a soil nail is a key parameter that controls the stability assessment of soil nail structure. In theprevious investigations, the soil dilatancy was found to be an important factor that influences the soilnail pull-out resistance especially for drill-and-grout soil nails. In order to study the influence of soildilatancy on soil nail pull-out resistance, laboratory pull-out tests and numerical parametric studieshave been carried out for soil nails in Completely Decomposed Granite (CDG) fill. The results showthat the soil dilatancy has a significant influence on the soil nail pull-out resistance

Notizen: Abstract This paper presents a backward transfer-matrix method for the elastic analysis of layered solids with an imperfect bonding at the layer interfaces. Literature review reveals that the conventional transfer-matrix method has an intrinsic fault which leads to ill-conditioned matrices for thick layers and accumulative numerical errors for a large number of layers and that there are a few publications available in the relevant literature regarding analytical analysis of layered solids by taking into account the effects of imperfectly bonded interfaces. The backward transfer-matrix method adopted in this paper completely overcomes the ill-posedness associated with the conventional transfer-matrix method and fully retains the highest efficiency of the classical transfer-matrix concept for analytical formulation of solutions in layered elastic solids with imperfectly bonded interfaces. Numerical results indicate that there is no problem in the numerical evaluation of the solutions with high accuracy and efficiency, and that the interfacial bonding conditions have a significant effect on the elastic response of layered solids due to external loading.
