    Notes: Abstract. The thermal entanglement in a two-qutrit system with two spins coupled by exchange interaction is investigated in terms of the measure of entanglement called “negativity”. It is found that the thermal entanglement is present and evolvements symmetrically between both ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic exchange couplings with the temperature. Moreover the critical temperature at which the negativity vanishes increases with the exchange coupling constant J. From the temperature and magnetic field dependences we demonstrate that the temperature and the magnetic field can affect the feature of the thermal entanglement significantly.

    Notes: Summary Antibodies cross-reactive with 4 major aflatoxins were demonstrated three weeks after immunization of rabbits with an immunogen which was prepared by conjugating aflatoxin B3 to bovine serum albumin. Aflatoxin B3 was first converted to its hemisuccinate before conjugation to the protein. Tritiated aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) was used as the marker ligand both for antibody titer determination as well as for analysis of antibody specificity. Competitive RIA revealed that the antibodies have good cross-reactivity with aflatoxins B1, B2, G1, and G2 when tritiated AFB1 was used as the marker ligand. The concentrations causing 50% inhibition of binding of3H-AFB1 to the antibodies by unlabeled aflatoxins B1, B2, G1, G2 and B3 were found to be 0.25, 3.34, 0.32, 4.0 and 0.53 ng/assay, respectively. The antibodies could be used for simultaneous analysis of aflatoxins B1 and G1, two of the most important toxic metabolites produced byAspergillus flavus andA. parasiticus.

    Notes: Abstract. Influence of membrane physical state on the proton permeability of isolated lysosomes was assessed by measuring the membrane potential with 3,3′-dipropylthiadicarbocyanine iodide and monitoring their proton leakage with p-nitrophenol. Changes in the membrane order were examined by the steady-state fluorescence anisotropy of 1,6-diphenyl-1,3,5-hexatriene. Both the membrane potential and proton leakage increased with fluidizing the lysosomal membranes by benzyl alcohol and decreased with rigidifying the membranes by cholesteryl hemisuccinate. The proton permeability increased to the maximum of 42% by the benzyl alcohol treatment and decreased to the minimum of 38.1% by the cholesteryl hemisuccinate treatment. Treating the lysosomes with protonophore CCCP increased the proton permeability by 58%. The effects of the membrane fluidization and rigidification can be reversed by rigidifying the fluidized membranes and fluidizing the rigidified membranes, respectively. The results indicate that the proton permeability of lysosomes increased and decreased with increasing and decreasing their membrane fluidity, respectively. Moreover, the lysosomal proton permeability did not alter further if the changes, either an increase or a decrease, in the fluidity exceeded some amount. The results suggest that the proton permeability of lysosomes can be modulated finitely by the alterations in their membrane physical state.

    Notes: The numerical simulation method is used to solve the problems of pipe bendingmanufacturing such as die with fine cracks, ovality of pipe. The fan-shaped die is welded with steelplate in circle and rib in radial direction by the analysis of structural deformation. The optimaldesign is provided with ovality of pipe as object variable and sliding slot dimensions as designvariables. Compared with experiential shape groove of slot, ovality of optimized slot decreasesabout 10.5% in average. It greatly reduced the production cost using computer simulation method toreplace a lot of experiment improving tube-bending production

    Notes: The alloying effects of Pd on the hydrogen solubility and the resistance to hydrogenembrittlement are investigated for Nb-xmol%Pd-ymol%Zr (x=0~19; y=0, 1) alloys. The hydrogensolubility at 673 K is found to decrease with increasing Pd content in the alloys. Both pure Nb andNb-Pd alloys possessed ductility in vacuum at 673 K. However, severe hydrogen embrittlementoccurs in pure Nb when it is tested under the hydrogen pressure even as low as 0.01 MPa. In view ofthe small punch (SP) absorption energy, the addition of Pd into Nb improves the resistance tohydrogen embrittlement by decreasing the hydrogen solubility in the alloy, although brittle fracture isstill observed in the Nb-15mol%Pd alloy tested under a hydrogen pressure of 0.015 MPa at 673 K

    Notes: Summary This note is concerned with the accuracy of the solution of nearly uncoupled Markov chains by a direct method based on the LU decomposition. It is shown that plain Gaussian elimination may fail in the presence of rounding errors. A modification of Gaussian elimination with diagonal pivoting and correction of small pivots is proposed and analyzed. It is shown that the accuracy of the solution is affected by two condition numbers associated with aggregation and the coupling respectively.

    Notes: Summary This paper concerns two closely related topics: the behavior of the eigenvalues of graded matrices and the perturbation of a nondefective multiple eigenvalue. We will show that the eigenvalues of a graded matrix tend to share the graded structure of the matrix and give precise conditions insuring that this tendency is realized. These results are then applied to show that the secants of the canonical angles between the left and right invariant of a multiple eigenvalue tend to characterize its behavior when its matrix is slightly perturbed.
