Notes: In this paper, the local approach based on the Weibull stress criterion was used toinvestigate the interfacial fracture behavior between LX88A coating and Q345 steel. LX88A coatingwas deposited by high velocity electric arc spraying technology (HVAS). The finite element method(FEM) was used to analyze the stress-strain fields of the coating specimen which consisted of threedifferent specimen geometrics or modes of loading. It was found that the Weibull stress for allspecimen geometries was almost identical under the same fracture probability when the interfacialfracture initiation occurred for different specimen geometries. It showed that the geometrydependence on the interface brittle fracture toughness data can be reduced through application of thelocal approach, and the local approach can be used to describe the interfacial fracture behavior

Notes: In heavy industrial sewing, needle heating has become a serious problem that limits the further increase of the sewing speed, and hence the productivity. The high temperature in the needle can degrade the strength of the thread. At the same, it may cause the wear of the needle eye, which would further damage the thread. It can also scorch the fabric, as well as temper and weaken the needle itself. Therefore, it is important to develop a model that can predict the needle heating and, hence, find remedies to minimize its effects. According to a literature survey, most research on needle heating focuses on experimental methods, such as infrared radiometry, infrared pyrometry, etc. This paper is the first part of our research on needle heating. In this paper, two analytical models are presented: the sliding contact model and the lumped variable model. These models are relatively simple and easy to use. Given needle geometry, sewing condition, and fabric characteristic, they can predict the needle temperature rise starting from initial heating to steady state. The simulation results are rather accurate. Hence, the models can be used to quickly identify the potential needle heating problems on the shop floor. In Part 2 of our study, a finite element analysis (FEA) model is presented together with the experiment results.

Notes: Calcium is generally determined by EDTA titration after separation of phosphate radicals, and the phosphorus is determined by weigh method. This traditional analytical process is timeconsuming and unfavourable for quality controlling. In contrast, the ICP-AES is simple and fast, and can simultaneously determine multielements. In this paper, the ICP-AES method was used tosimultaneously determine calcium and phosphorous in calcium phosphate based bioceramics, andwavelengths of 317.933 nm and 213.618 nm were selected for the measuring of the calcium andphosphorus, respectively. The results obtained by ICP-AES are well consistent with the resultsdetermined by the traditional EDTA titration and weigh method, and suggest that the ICP-AESanalysis is a simple, fast and accurate method for simultaneous determination of calcium andphosphorous in calcium phosphate based bioceramics
