Abstract:
Notes:
Summary The paper deals with the behaviour of the transition metals and uranium, thorium, and cerium in thin layer chromatography. The solvents used were mixtures of halogen-hydrogen acids (HF, HCl, HBr, HI) and alcohols (methanol, ethanol, propanol-(1), butanol(1)). Cellulose powder was chosen as the layer material, since in this case the chromatographic process can be considered as a distribution between stationary and mobile phases. On the basis of the results obtained-these are compiled in RF spectra-it is attempted to interpret the active transport mechanisms. Ion exchange and liquid-liquid extraction are used for comparison purposes so as to identify the form of the element found in TLC-cation, undissociated molecule, or halogen complex. Separation possibilities for the individual metals are pointed out.
