Notes: [Auszug] Counting individual quantum-mechanical objects such as the particles of a complex many-body system — whether photons, electrons, atoms or something else — is an efficient way to learn about the properties of both the system and of the particles being counted. Fifty years ago, Robert ...

Notes: Abstract We employ high-temperature series to investigate a two-parameter class of renormalization group transformations for the two-dimensional Ising model on the triangular lattice. For the static case we identify an optimal organization of the high-temperature expansion and an optimal transformation matrix and thus find, in second order, ν=0.96 and the magnetic eigenvaluey=2-η/2=1.76. From recursion relations for flip rates we find the dynamic exponent to be the same for all transformations in our two-parameter class,z=2.32. Our fixed-point flip rates do not describe a Markov process even though the corresponding master equation for the single-event probability displays no explicit memory effects. The non-Markovian nature shows up only in a violation of the Markovian detailed balance conditions.

Notes: Abstract We construct the most general real space renormalization for the two-dimensional kinetic Ising model on the triangular lattice which, to second order in the high-temperature expansion, conserves detailed balance and avoids fast transients for the cell spins. We show the corresponding dynamical recursion relations (as well as the exponentz) to be unaltered with respect to the ones found, in a previous paper, for a completely different class of transformations. This finding resolves long-standing confusions and controversies.

Notes: Abstract We investigate the distribution of Stokes pulse energies in the transient nonlinear regime of stimulated Raman scattering. Nonlinear effects lead to a stabilization of Stokes pulse energies. The character of the transition from the chaotic linear regime to the nonlinear regime is studied in detail. The results compare nicely with recent experiments of Walmsey and Raymer.
