Notes: Abstract The spectral and kinetic parameters of the X-ray luminescence of ZnSe crystals doped with Zn, Se, and Te were investigated during the growth process at temperatures in the range 80–500 K, and also after annealing in Zn vapor. ZnSe crystals grown from a stoichiometric mixture, or mixture containing chalcogenide impurities, typically produce the minimum level of afterglow and a rapid rise of X-ray luminescence, as well as a shift of its peak from the infrared region toward shorter wavelengths after annealing in zinc. ZnSe crystals grown from material with excess of Zn have a relatively low X-ray luminescence yield and a substantial level of afterglow. It is assumed that the growth of Te-activated crystals is accompanied by the development of thermally stable complexes of the form V ZnTeSe that act as radiative recombination centers. The introduction of excess Zn into the initial mixture produces a reduction in the concentration of V Zn and, hence, in the concentration of radiative recombination centers. It is shown that, for free-electron concentrations n〈1018 cm−3, the afterglow time constant τ can be described as a function of n by a model of radiative recombination that involves a single impurity level, whereas for n〉1018 cm−3, the time constant decreases with increasing n, which cannot be explained in terms of the simple model. It is suggested that radiative recombination centers of a new type are produced as a result of prolonged annealing in Zn vapor.

Notes: Abstract The electrodeposition of uranium and trace quantities of239Pu,234Th,144Ce on a stainless steel disk has been investigated from 0.5–2.0M NaOH and the two-phase system: extract of actinides in TBP-aqueous solution of NaOH. The electrodeposition yield of the above elements reaches 98–100% in 40 min of electrolysis with current density 0.4–0.5 A/cm2. The presence of 0.5M Na2CO3, 2.0M NaNO3, 2.0M NaNO2, 0.2M NaF in alkaline solutions does not decrease the electrodeposition yield. The electrodeposited films meet all the requirements of α-spectrometry. The uranium oxidation states (V) and (IV) have been determined in the electrodeposited films.

Notes: Abstract New experimental evidence is presented which shows that the reliability and the precision of the determination of the optical constants of the metallic and dielectric surfaces can be improved by using the surface electromagnetic wave absorption spectroscopy and SEW phase spectroscopy simultaneously.

Notes: Surface-enhanced resonance Raman (SERR) spectra of azurin, a copper-containing protein, were measured on a silver surface with a double grating. Significant differences in intensity and band wavenumber were obtained between SERR and solution resonance Raman spectra in the region 250-300 cm-1 and near 400 cm-1. Preliminary interpretation of these differences suggests a likely orientation of the azurin protein on the silver surface in which the N(His44)—N(His115)—S(Met119) plane is perpendicular to the metal surface and the imidazole group of His115 is in close proximity to the metal.
