Notizen:
Abstract The methods usually applied for the enrichment of trace elements in high-purity mercury—destination of the metal, reduction of the nitrate with formic acid, fractional extraction out of the iodide containing solution—were examined as to their efficiency for the enrichment of palladium in mercury. All these methods proved to be not qualified. In the presence of mercury this is also valid for a method, in which palladium is co-precipitated on AgCN. As we have published earlier, AgCN is a suitable trace collector for Pd in many materials. However, a practical complete co-precipitation of the palladium is possible, when all the mercury, solved in nitric acid, is converted into Hg(CN)2 before the AgCN is precipitated. The AgCN precipitate was analysed spectrochemically. For the analysis of metallic mercury containing 10−6% Pd the relative standard deviation is about 0.18. The limit of detection was found to be at 5×10−7% Pd.
