Notizen: Summary Thirteen patients with midline pathology of the bladder or prostate and two normal volunteers were examined by Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) using a variety of pulse sequences. The MRI results were compared with computed tomography (CT) and transrectal or transurethral ultrasound (US). This study demonstrates that MRI is capable of visualizing pathology of the bladder and prostate at least as well as CT and US. However, MRI seems to be more advantageous in identifying lesions of tumors in the roof and base of the bladder because of flexible imaging planes. MRI is also very promising in the staging of pelvic malignancies because of excellent contrast between tumor and nearby important anatomical structures. This indicates that MRI might become the modality of choice in urological disease of the bladder and prostate.
