Summary Cochineal tincture is recommended for the detection of molybdenum. The reaction being carried out atph = 5,7−6,2, molybdenum gives a fiery-red fluorescence. The reaction is very sensitive; it may, however, been used to a limited extent, only, owing to the fact that some cations extinguish the fluorescence or mask it by their own fluorescence, under the conditions of the experiments.

Résumé La teinture de cochenille est recommandée pour la recherche du molybdène. Ce réactif donne une fluorescence rouge-feu à unph de 5,4−6,2. La réaction est très sensible mais son usage général est limité parce que plusieurs cations éteignent la fluorescence ou, dans les conditions expérimentales, la masquent par leur propre fluorescence.

Zusammenfassung Zum Nachweis von Molybdän wird Cochenille-Tinktur als Reagens empfohlen. Bei Einhaltung einesph = 5,7 bis 6,2 entsteht eine feuerrote Fluoreszenz. Die Reaktion ist sehr empfindlich, doch ist einer allgemeinen Anwendbarkeit dadurch eine Grenze gesetzt, daß mehrere Kationen die Fluoreszenzreaktion auslöschen oder unter den Versuchsbedingungen durch eine Eigenfluoreszenz verdecken.
