Reaction of zirconium tetrachloride with äquimolar amounts of Cl2O in CCl4 gives ZrOCl2 quantitatively. ZrOCl2 is a white, hygroscopic, crystalline solid which decomposes at 250°. It is characterised by analysis, X-ray diagram, IR spectrum and addition compounds with POCl3 and pyridine. The assignment of the IR spectrum probably indicates ZrO++ and ZrOCl4-- ions. the latter being arranged to polymeric Zr - O - Zr chains.

Zirkontetrachlorid reagiert mit der äquivalenten Menge Cl2O in CCl4 quantitativ unter Bildung von ZrOCl2. Die Verbindung ist ein weißer, sehr hygroskopischer, kristalliner, bis 250° stabiler Festkörper. ZrOCl2 wird durch Analyse, Pulverdiagramm, IR-Spektrum und Additionsverbindungen mit POCl3 und Pyridin charakterisiert. Nach der Zuordnung des IR-Spektrums liegen möglicherweise ZrO++-Kationen und kettenförmig über Sauerstoffatome polymerisierte ZrOCl4---Anionen vor.
