Notes: Abstract Germanates of composition Ca2Al[AlGeO7] and Ca2Ga[GaGeO7] have been synthesized and studied by means of single-crystal photographs. The compounds crystallize with melilite structure and form a continuous solid solution. The intensity calculation for the first-named phase indicates a statistical Al/Ge-distribution, analogous to the Al/Si-distribution in gehlenite, Ca2Al[AlSiO7].

Notes: Abstract The optical constants of the alkali metal rubidium have been measured in the wavelength region from 0,3 to 2,4 μ in the solid and liquid state at temperatures between 195 and 313 °K, by analysing intensity and polarisation of the monochromatic radiations reflected by the surface of the metal. These mirrorlike surfaces, free of any contamination and not distorted by any treatment, were prepared and measured in ultrahigh vacuum. The purity of the metal was checked by measuring the residual resistance at liquid helium temperatures. The values thus obtained forn,k, ɛ1=n 2−k 2 and ɛ2=2nk, listed in tables, and their temperature dependence permit the determination of 1. the frequency of the volume-plasmaoscillation, 2. the core polarizability, 3. the optical mass, 4. the optical conductivity resp. relaxation time, 5. and to separate the temperature dependent “Drude”-absorption from other temperature independent absorption mechanisms, particularely the interband absorption. Values of the reflectivity for perpendicular incidence and of the penetration depth are determined and given.

Notes: Abstract The optical constants of the alkali metal cesium have been measured in the wavelength region from 0.3 to 2.5 μ in the solid and liquid state at temperatures between 90 and 302 K, by analysing intensity and polarisation of the monochromatic radiations reflected by the surface of the metal. These mirrorlike surfaces, free of any contamination and not distorted by any treatment, were prepared and measured in ultrahigh vacuum. The purity of the metal was checked by measuring the residual resistance at liquid helium temperatures. The values thus obtained forn,k, ɛ1=n 2-k 2 and ɛ2=2nk, listed in tables, and their temperature dependence permit to separate quantitatively the absorption due to different absorption mechanisms and to determine some of the quantities describing the behaviour of the free electrons.

Notes: Abstract Nb3Sn diffusion layers were irradiated with 24 MeV oxygen ions at fluences from 3.2×1013 up to 1.6×1015 cm−2. The enhancement of the superconducting critical current density Δj c has been measured as a function of fluence and of the external magnetic fieldH a(j c⊥H a). The thermal annealing treatment of the defects concerning thej c and induced by irradiation, has been investigated in the temperature region from 200 to 800 °C. The results are compared with the measurements of irradiation of Nb3Sn with protons and deuterons. The measured data are discussed in connection with size of defects, cluster distance, fluxline distance and pinning-force.

Notes: Abstract Electrical resistance and optical transmission, reflexion and absorption of thin films of the alkali metal cesium were measured as a function of thickness, the latter for ∥ and ⊥ polarised monochromatic radiations having wavelengths between 3000 and 9000 Å incident from the vacuum side as well as from the quartz-support side at angles of 45 ° and ca 30 ° resp. The films were prepared by evaporation in static ultra-high vacuum (∼10−10 Torr) onto a cooled (70 K) smooth surface of a thin, plane-parallel plate of polycrystalline quartz. The thickness of the slowly condensing films was varied continuously from zero to some thousand Angström-units corresponding to the bulk metal. The results obtained permit, on the one side, by means of the size effect in the resistance, the determination of the mean free path of the conduction electronsl and of the productp∞ ·l, a constant characterising fundamental electronic properties of the respectiv metal in bulk; they permit, on the other side the identification of the volume- or the surface character of the different plasma oscillations, the determination of their resonance frequency, a quantitative analysis of their development with increasing film thickness, and finally of the optical constants.
